What’s the most anabolic condiment to put on your meals? That would be mustard. An extract found in mustard seeds called brassinosteroids, has been shown to produce gains in lean body mass, reduce muscle protein breakdown and increase muscle size.  It’s also one of the cleanest, prep friendly condiments you can use. (Two things should be noted: It is not known how much actual mustard you would need to consume to get the same level of the extract used in the study and 2) this study was done on rats, not humans.) A través de estos años de hacer ejercicio y tratar de comer saludable  creo que he probado infinidad de dietas y me he equivocado al dar por hecho que solo el contar calorías y macros es preponderante para bajar o mantener el peso.

A veces la gente me dice: Ay Sony que te va a hacer comerte unas galletas o una dona glaseada? 🤔🤔🤷🤷 Lo que las personas no entienden es que estos alimentos son hiperpaladantes ☠️💀☠️y una vez que empiezas a comerlos querrás comer más y más. Ellos generan una sensación de necesitar más, de ansiedad y poca saciedad.

Hoy en día elijo comida real, alta en fibra, agua, con fitonutrientes, no cuento calorías, no cuento macros.

Cómo vez mantengo un peso saludable y esto es porque nuestra grasa corporal está sujeta a un sistema homeostático, es decir, nuestro cuerpo tiene la capacidad de mantener una condición interna estable (cantidad de grasa).

I remember the picture on the left being taken so vividly. This was Christmas Day 2010. I was a newly engaged college student and by the time this picture had been taken I had WELL put anything health and fitness related on the back burner because “tis the season.” 🙄I was addicted to sugar and just kept eating more and more of it even though I was feeling sluggish, uncomfortable and wishing I had a baggier top on. Pretty sure my jeans were unbuttoned at this point too. My skin felt congested and all I wanted to do was nap. Which is funny because I was actually able to take a nap at this time if I wanted to because I didn’t have kids yet haha. 
I am sure after Christmas was over I told myself that I would start working on ME and get into a workout routine and eat better. Yeah...it wasn’t for another 4 years that I actually found something that worked for me and stuck to it! Mostly because I never knew where to start or what to do. I had a quick fix mindset instead of thinking about a lifestyle change. I wanted to lose X amount of weight instead of focusing on feeling better/stronger and letting weight loss be a byproduct. 
So look..I get it. Getting started is the most important step but can be the hardest one to take! I want to help you take that step. My January accountability group is going to kick off with PREP week on January 1st!!! This will be a week of literally getting prepped and ready to start the year off right! January 8th will be the official Day 1 and we are kicking things off with a plant based three day cleanse that I am SO PUMPED about!!! The first 5 ladies who are ready to get started with me will be gifted with their cleanse by yours truly. Because I care and I really want you to feel good right off the bat and see some of that holiday fluff disappear getting you off to a good start towards reaching your goals.

Ken je dat gevoel? Dat je aan het einde van de dag het liefst even alles uit je handen wilt laten vallen, even helemaal niks wilt doen en alleen maar relaxen? Such a simple, delicious comfort meal. Stir onions, red peppers in olive oil and once golden, add a can of tomatoes. Add salt and flavours. Add pasta and bring to a boil 🍝 .

How to beat the holiday bulge Tip #1

We all tend to overdo the food indulgences during the holiday season. 
Choose to eat bulky cruciferous veggies like broccoli and cauliflower with your meal.  They fill you up, are low carb and sugar free (unless cooked in a sweet sauce). In this pic we've made a "creamy" garlic alfredo sauce using cauliflower, and stuffed our mushrooms with roasted broccoli.

Many have inboxed and sent me whatsapps asking, so here it is...i am OK!!! 🤗 Thank u for the concern and prayers. I know i have been less active on my page but i am taking some time...just to b. 
Since the day i went to ER, its been a bit of a roller coaster ride. I was off work for 3 days and had to ctach up with lectures upon my return. All this so close to the end of semester. Besides work, i have had to fit in medical appointments in between which means i have had to run between the University and the Hospital. At this point i do not wish to disclose anything about my condition since nothing has been confirmed. All i know right now is that i will have an MRI next week and possibly have a procedure in 2018. 
I found myself wondering the halls of the hospital and in an out for various labs for tests, giving praise to the Almighty and accepting whatever it is i needed to accept. The hardest question i asked one of the doctors this week was "can it become cancerous?" Rest assured by the medical practitioners, the answer was met with a great sigh of relief and an overwhelming sense of gratitude and thanx. 
I continue eating as clean as i can, making a conscious effort with my meals but i have not been cooking much (which of cos does leave room for making bad choices). We have had take-out way more than wot we should (which is NOT a good thing) and i have been eating way too much wheat and gluten products (i can feel it on my skin). Feeling somewhat deflated, i am not down nor defeated and forward i will march in strength and prayer.

PS: My Saudi friend's mom sent me some waragaynab. They are grape leaves, stuffed with rice, covered in a lemon and olive oil sauce. I should do a post JUST describing the traditional Arab stuffed vegetables. These were THE best ones i have ever tasted 👌

I cannot help but feel an overwhelming sense of thankfulness for everything going on in my life. Behold...spaghetti squash with turkey meatballs and red sauce! You know I made extra meatballs to eat for lunch this week! 😀👋🏻

Preheat over to 450. .
.
For the spaghetti squash:
🍝 slice in half vertically and clean out seeds in middle .
.
🍝 place upside down in a baking pan with 1/4 inch of water. Cover with foil and bake at 450 for 40-50 minutes. Will be done when you can scrape a fork through it easily. .

🍝 when it’s done, scoop squash out with a fork and spoon into a bowl, mix in some Parmesan cheese, oregano, garlic and pepper.

For the turkey meatballs:

🍝 place 1 pkg of 99% lean ground turkey in a bowl and mix in the following:

🍝 1 tbsp garlic pepper, 1 tbsp oregano, 1 egg, 1/2 cup of Panko bread crumbs, 1/4-1/2 chopped onion, 1/4 cup of mozzarella cheese, and spinach if you want!

🍝 roll into 1 inch balls and place onto parchment paper on baking sheet and bake meatballs along with spaghetti squash for about 10 minutes, broil for 2, remove when Brown.

🍝 place sauce in large pan on stove on low and add meatballs to continue cooking for 5-10 minutes. .

🍝 for sauce, I buy a pre-made organic, low sugar sauce at the grocery store. 👌🏻

1/2 cup vanilla complete protein
3 cups rice cereal
2/3 cup raw honey

Mix and roll them into balls the refridgerate and enjoy!

En principio: SI, si tengo #Celulitis 🙋🙋🙋, pero  no se  nota tanto porque la tengo en glúteos y femorales....es poca, pero si, yo SI TENGO CELULITIS 🙈🙈🙈

Todas odiamos la piel de naranja 🍊🍊🍊 me incluyo en ese grupo, pero a lo largo del tiempo he entendido que esas imperfecciones me hacen un ser humano y a veces hasta me gusta ver que está por ahí presente para recordarme que la perfección no existe 🙅🙅🙅
.
En el pasado solía tener los glúteos y femores con una celulitis grave 🤦🤦🤦. Eso era cuando era sedentaria, no comía saludable y comía muchos ultraprocesados.
.
Personalmente noté que la apariencia de esa zona de mi piel mejoraba al cabo de pocos meses de comer saludable y les voy a explicar porque creo que perdí mucha celulitis.
.
1️⃣ Dejé de comer productos ultraprocesados. Estos contienen cantidades impresionantes de sodio, basta con leer las etiquetas (galletas, refrescos, productos enlatados e incluso bebidas energizantes lo contienen).
.
2️⃣ Empecé a moverme más, comencé a correr y eso hacia que mi cuerpo se mantuviera en mucho movimiento, estaba menos tiempo sentada y más tiempo activa.
.
3️⃣ Decidí tomar más agua como lo recomendaba mi nutrióloga. Admito que en algún momento exageré con el agua (llegaba a tomar hasta 4 litros de agua al día) lo cual para mí es insano. Hoy en día se que casi todos los alimentos #reales que consumo (la mayoría) están compuestos por agua, así que basta con analizar lo que pongo en el plato durante el dia y beber la necesaria.

4️⃣ Entrenar con pesas. Entrenar con pesas me ayudó a formar masa muscular e ir poco a poco perdiendo grasa a nivel general. Entiéndase que la grasa no se pierde de forma localizada. Así que perder grasa y que la celulitis poco a poco desapareciera fue consecuencia de una perdida de grasa integral, no solo por hacer ejercicios de "pierna" en el gimnasio.

Probably one of the things I am most grateful for since diving into this fitness stuff would be finally finding BALANCE 😌. That term is thrown around a lot and it used to make zero sense to me. Like I would either workout consistently or not at all…overindulge too often or fear weight gain and avoid certain food and occasions resulting in feeling deprived 😕. So to me, balance means I am disciplined with my workouts by finding what works for me/something I can stick to consistently but realize that missed workout happen. It ALSO means that I feed my body to nourish MOST of the time but will not hesitate to enjoy some Christmas cookies 🍪. I give myself GRACE and it is oh so freeing 🕊. Because when you’re counting calories or avoiding the treat table because you “have three more pounds to lose” sorry but that’s just not ideal in my opinion 🙅🏻‍♀️. So here we here on a Monday morning doing leg day after a Christmas party yesterday where I enjoyed my time with no regrets. Physically I may be feeling a tad sluggish but mentally.. I’m doing just fine 😉🤸🏻‍♀️. #newday #mondaymotivation

Healthy Mince Pie's 😍
A great healthy mince pie recipe to gett healthy this season.

For the crust – 400g of ground almonds – 6 tablespoons of coconut oil – 4 tablespoons of water – 20 medjool dates (400g)

For the mince – 2 apples (200g) – 1 vanilla pod – 100g raisins – 100g sultanas – 100g dried cranberries – the juice of 2 oranges – 1 tablespoon of coconut oil – 1 teaspoon of cinnamon – 1 teaspoon of ginger

Start by making the mince. Chop the apples into small pieces (discarding the core) and place them into a saucepan

Slice the vanilla pod in half and scrape the seeds into the pan. Then add in all the remaining ingredients and stir it together

Let the mince simmer for about 30 minutes, until the apples are nice and soft

While the mince cooks make the crust. Place all the crust ingredients together in a food processor and blend for a minute or so until everything has mixed together and the dates are totally broken down. Then sprinkle flour over a surface and roll the mix out so that it’s about half a cm thick

Heat the oven to 180C

Grease muffin tins with coconut oil and then mould the mix into the individual tins, once you’ve done this cut the remaining mixture into shapes (I normally do stars), these will go on top of the pies. Then place the tray of crusts in the oven for 8 minutes, until they start to turn golden brown – at which point take them out and allow them to cool while the mince mix finishes cooking

Once the mince has cooked start assembling the pies. Simply add two heaped teaspoons of mince into each pie before placing a star over the middle of the mince. Bake the pies again for 8 minutes

Once they’ve baked leave for twenty minutes to cool and finish setting before enjoying!
