Buenas noches familia!
If you don’t know, I’m a snacker kinda gal & I constantly love to graze or pick at food⠀
I try to opt for the lower calorie version of snacks...because I have a HUGE appetite & ZERO SELF CONTROL. So the lower the calories = the more I can eat 😊 #Winning#MoreBangForYourBuck ⠀
I’ve listed some of my go to snacks below which I’m usually caught munching on. ⠀
If I’m craving crisps, I’ll grab some @hippeas_snacks chickpea puffs (which are LEGIT the bomb), or @nairnsoatcakes bite sized oat snacks. Another couple favs of mine are @propercorn ofc & @popchips (ohmygosh. If you don’t know about @popchips, get 👏🏽 to 👏🏽 know👏🏽) as a lower calorie substitute for a packet of Walkers. ⠀
If you haven’t heard of @nakdwholefoods bars, where you been babe hiding babe?! Under a rock? 🤔 These are a nice little fruit & nut bar, with no nasties in. I like to have these just before a workout to give me that extra bit of umph! 🏋🏽♀️⠀
When I fancy cake...gimme a @fibreoneuk bar (only about 90 calories!) or a @grazedotcom snack box. Can you tell what my current obsessions are?! 🍋⠀
My post dinner and “I need something sweet & fruit just won’t cut it” has gotta be these quark yogs by @arlaprotein & @nutriiofficial. They each have 20g protein & about 200cals which is a bitta me 👌🏽 Perfect for hitting your protein target for the day 💪🏽⠀
When I really want a chocolate bar...but I don’t reaaaally want a chocolate bar, I’ll get one of these @grenadeofficial protein bars. They have about 220 cals in, but with 21g protein. Although these are BANGING, I don’t tend to eat many of them. I’d rather get my protein intake from whole foods rather than bars (and also for fear of upsetting my gut), but every now & then I’ll pick up the jaffa quake 🍫 🍊 ⠀
And finally, sometimes no matter how many low calories, high protein snacks you eat...you just gotta have a bit of CRAP in your life. Its called BALANCE. ⠀
I always have the “kids” size portion snacks at home, which are perfect for when I want something properly sweet.⠀
...And they usually line my stomach before I dive headfirst into that family size bag of Haribo 🍬🍭 ⠀
Let me know what your favourite snacks are! ☺
So that there is my two pack 😂 Apologies if anyone is a bit squeamish but I’ve never actually said too much about this before, so thought I should.
My beautiful scars are the result of colorectal surgery due to Ulcerative Colitis. I was diagnosed in 1999 and was treated with all the tablets (prednisolone, azathioprine, mesalazine etc..). Unfortunately none of them worked and I was put through the ordeal of a total colectomy, where they remove the entire large intestine, in 2004. I had a colostomy bag for about a year while things were getting sorted (u can see where my stoma was, it’s the little blob on the left hand side of my main scar in the photo). I ended up with what’s called a J-Pouch created from my small intestine. Since then I’ve had a lot of low points, particularly when I got Pouchitis in 2014, which is where the J-Pouch becomes infected. I’ve spent weeks in hospital, lost a lot of weight and been in loads of pain. For the last year though I’ve been in a comparatively good place. I figured I should make the most of the good times cause I always have the thought in the back of my mind that things could switch up at anytime.
I thought I’d put this on to raise some awareness, because the last few days I’ve been looking through Insta and seen a lot of people out there in a real bad place with similar issues (and a lot worse) to what I’ve been through and it would be really great if some kind of cure could be found for this horrible disease. To do this we need to get more money to charities supporting those with #crohnsandcolitis . I’m raising money for @crohnsandcolitisuk #linkinbio If you’d like to donate you could go through that, or you could go direct to them at www.crohnsandcolitis.org.uk or if u just want to find out some more info go to their website for loads of great info.
If ur reading this right now and ur struggling with one of these illnesses, keep cracking on! Your doing fantastically well! Easy to say I know but it really is a matter of peaks and troughs, things WILL improve with time.
Many of you out there suffer from colitis, crohn’s and IBS. This tends to be a taboo topic so many suffer in silence. This wellness system is helping people get their quality of life back. 💙
Stacy Kanciruk: ULCERATIVE COLITIS
Ulcerative Colitis is seriously no joke. I was diagnosed at age 12. It’s pretty much all I have ever known is the sick life. The only time I was flare free was when I was pregnant.
I was pretty skeptic also, I had ordered the blue box months ago, it just sat there and I ended up returning it.
I woke up the beginning of the new year and decided why not try it, certainly it can’t make me feel any worse.
It’s Almost like my body has been reset, I used to live in my bathroom going up to 25 times a day, if I wasn’t in the bathroom I was so exhausted I was sleeping.
Not anymore!!!!! 11 days in!! I am happy, calm, have so much energy and I’m not in the bathroom near as often!!! I can actually leave my home without fear of an accident. I went ice fishing the other day, no bathrooms on the lake, before I would stress and would have missed out. My Colitis isn’t perfect yet but it’s come so far since being on the redbox, I am determined to keep going, I want my life back😊
This week has been tough.
My patience has been tried. (Not by my own child 🧒) My heart ♥️ has felt pain and I have experienced anxiety. .
Two things that helped me get through; .
• having #courage and voicing how I felt. .
• giving myself #grace and the freedom to shed tears 😭 when they were needed. .
At the end of the day, the most important thing is to remember that being #loved by yourself is what matters most. It makes you a stronger 💪 YOU! 👊
Happy Friday! .
A quick breakfast shot before I devoured it 😂
I often share my food shots because I cook on a regular basis to help my digestive issues and to keep healthy.
My food journey has been a long one. It started with trying to figure out what was causing me acne and has reached the point where I have to be very careful what I eat on a daily basis to manage flare ups.
Some people think that a paleo or autoimmune paleo diet has to be restrictive but it doesn’t. If you get a little creative you can have a great breakfast that won’t have you missing out. .
Today I made scrambled eggs, sautéed kale, mushrooms and onions, kimchi, and avocado and combined them together in a coconut wrap!
It’s a simple meal full of great flavours and low inflammation foods. 😍
So, I am often asked do I agree with Lions eating Gazelles. 😳 of course I do - it sucks for the Gazelle but they are natural prey for an obligate carnivore like the Lion. And then sometimes I am told that humans (homo sapiens and all of their ancient relatives like Homo erectus and Neanderthol) have always eaten meat for ever and ever (which isn't true but that is a different conversation). If you look at pure Physiology we are most similar to Herbivores (not ruminant or fermenting per se but overall physiology). .
"A carnivores or omnivores small intestine is three to six times the length of its trunk. This is a tool designed for rapid elimination of food that rots quickly. Mans, as well as other herbivores small intestines are 10 to 12 times the length of their body, and winds itself back and forth in random directions." Additionally Carnivores have stomach acidity up to 20X that of herbivores (Including humans). So... Yeh plus we don't have claws and razor sharp fangs etc.
Swipe to see my lovely assistant! ❤
Looong nights with #molars mean lazy days (as lazy as can be with a toddler 😅) prepping lamb/pork broth and eating lots of frozen berries. Praying for a nap soon. 🤞
Day 5 of 80 workout done 👊
Happy Friday to me!!! I completed 2 workouts in 12 hours and I think my body hates me but I know it really loves me, I couldn’t fall behind 💖
I am really Loving this new program! In just 5 days I feel so much stronger, more flexible 🤸♀️ which is huge for me bc my body and muscles are usually very very tight, I have more energy, I feel less bloated, my back pain is so so much better, I already feel better in my clothes, I’ve lost 3 pounds this week yes I’m sure that is mostly water weight but it’s those nasty toxins flushing out of me from some treats I slid in the past few weeks 😬
It’s game on!! One more workout tomorrow then rest day/stretching on Sunday and back to it Monday!! I am starting a new group Feb.5th if you like to jump on this healthy train and change your life! What do you say? Message me or comment below and be happy to help you 👊💖💪

“AT LEAST YOU DON’T HAVE CANCER”...
“It’s not like you’re dying”...
“You’re just doing this for attention”...
“It’s all in your head”...
“If you were more positive/tried yoga/thought about something else, maybe you would get better”...
Oooooh, yes. So familiar.
I’ve had all of those things said to me & more... by people who were allegedly my FRIENDS!
WERE being the operative word, ‘cause we ain’t friends no more!
Listen up, you DO NOT need that kind of stinky bullshit in your life. Neither did I for that matter... but it took me a while to realise & get there!
The best part about being in your mid-to-late thirties is that by this age you’ve amassed some hard earned wisdom.
The worst part about being in your mid-to-late thirties is morphing into a frantic Agony Aunt who desperately wants to prevent younger generations from making the same mistakes (and putting up with the same CRAP) that you did in order to cultivate said wisdom.
I chat with many of you on a daily basis & a vast number of them are centered around the challenges of interpersonal relationships. Specifically, friends who don’t or don’t want to understand your chronic illness.
I was confined to a wheelchair for 9 months, a couple of years after the end of high school, following a gnarly car accident. It took a really long time to recover & I missed out on a lot socially. I became isolated & drifted away from my high school friends. And over the past 15 years I’ve had to say goodbye to many friendships that weren’t constructive.
Yeah it hurt. Yeah it made me sad.
But what I’ve learned is that by letting go of what doesn’t serve me, I’ve “curated” a smaller group of ride-or-die friends. The type that fill my tummy with giggles & my heart with warm fuzzies.
People will come & go in your life...
Trust this thirty-fucking-six year old when she says: those who don’t treat you with kindness & empathy are NOT your people.
Cut them loose to make room for the ones who ARE.
This move!!! Coming from the girl who had/has/gets frustrated with VERTIGO!! Look at my balance. It has gotten so much better with exercise. Crazy. 🤪💕
Don’t let anything stop you. I did a lot of stupid things to my body back in the day (yes, I’m ancient) and when I was almost 40, I ended up with vertigo and colitis, esophagitis, gastritis, etc. I won’t bore you. Suffice it to say, I sucked at taking care of me! Now, inching closer to 50(seriously what happened?!), I’m all about taking control. It’s never too late. 👊💪❤️ Happy Friday!! 💥💥
I was going to take an aerial yoga class with a friend today but instead spent the hour sitting on my bathroom floor under running warm water.
I'd love to tell you that I'm not letting my illness restrict my life and that I'm all 💪🏼💪🏼💪🏼 but it's not always true - sometimes it does prevent me from participating in activities. Like today my stomach was hurting and I needed to stay near the toilet during the day. But I can still choose to keep smiling. How an earth do I do that? A little summary of my previous posts:
1. I concentrate on the good things in my life and what I'm grateful for - my family is safe, we've got peace in Finland, nature, lovely friends etc.
2. I know it'll get better sooner or later, in one way or another.
3. I believe there's meaning in everything and though it's hidden now, I'll be able to see it later in the future.
I'm officially back on sick leave and starting antibiotics today. Let's hope it'll help my J-pouch stop cramping and I'll get to sleep at night again! 🙏🏻
A világ elől. Elég a fizikai. :)

Cozy morning bowls☀️
GF oats, almond milk, maca powder, banana, cinnamon, nutmeg • cook stove top • top w organic maple greek yogurt, smooth nut butter, granola
Bananas alone tend to hurt me which leaves me to sneak them into meals like this (cook your fruit to soften the fiber content!). Granola is also hard to digest when in flares but small quantities, no added sugars, and no nuts seems to be👌🏼for me. Listen to your body and understand what it can handle - each gut is different! The foods you put into your body DO matter in IBD, don’t let your GI doc tell you otherwise #mindfuleating#ulcerativecolitis#guthealth#ucdiet
What makes my heart smile you ask? Well my Insta Pot of course!
I finally tried out the yogurt function and made dairy free yogurt from coconut milk.
Rather than using a store bought yogurt starter I opted to use my VSL#3 probiotics.
The process was pretty easy breezy and the results are mind blowing. This is by far the best yogurt I have ever had. That is a big statement from me, as I am typically super critical of my own cooking.
The consistency is equal to Greek yogurt (if you prefer regular yogurt just add less gelatin to the recipe)
Once it is ready you can eat it out of the pot (like I did) or take a pretty pic #eatingfortheinsta or add your favorite toppings (I choose blackberries and mint)
Today I want to teach you how to start a Gut Healing Bullet Journal.
Why Start a Gut Healing Bullet Journal?
🔹Help track your Elimination Diet
🔹Make correlations between food and mood
🔹Have a way to simply record your day-to-day without feeling overwhelmed by sitting down for 10+ minutes to journal
🔹Learn new things about yourself
🔹Learn new things (in general)
🔹Have easy-to-find information for doctor’s appointments
🔹Realize quickly what does/does not work
How to Start a Gut Healing Bullet Journal
1️⃣Get a journal with as many or little pages as you’d like. The first one I had was 158 pages (which lasted about 3 months). My new one is 240 pages. Your journal doesn’t need to be anything fancy. In fact, I’m liking my second one more than the first. You can buy a journal bound however you’d like, but I like mine spiral bound, so I can easily keep the journal open all day long without having to use a bookmark.
2️⃣The very first thing you should do when you get your journal is number all pages. Place the numbers on the lower right or left-hand corner of each page.
Page 1 will be your Index, so write “Index” at the top of the page.
3️⃣Decide all the various pieces you want to make up your Gut Healing Bullet Journal. Between my old one and new one, some of my pieces include: Key (non-negotiable), #BristolStoolChart , #supplements , reintroduction + questionable, journaling pages, variations of my AIP Bread recipe, Low-FODMAP + SCD master food lists and monthly calendar overviews. (Note: I don’t have a page just for medications because I only take one medication, and so I simply denote that via the Key.)
You can read the full post now via sarahkayhoffman.com --> "How to Start a Gut Healing Bullet Journal." (Make sure you're following @agutsygirl and click "Turn on Post Notifications" in the upper right corner so you never miss a post).
#Fbf 😱 I can’t believe this was 4 years ago almost to the day! Oh the things I didn’t even realize I would have yet to experience. Looking back in this photo it feels much longer than it does without. This marked a time where my health was in the midst of continuously declining faster & I thought, well I’m just sick AGAIN, can’t get a break.. but I’ll get through it. Boy have I been hit hard with a different reality. Even through it all, I still had the same positive vibes that have successfully helped me get to where I’m at today & it’s just who I am, it will always be a part of me to stay positive no matter what. 🌻 I was beginning a 2nd round of antibiotics for chronic C. Diff Colitis after the 1st round failed & I was getting worse. I can’t even count how many times I fought it before this time due to antibiotics not working a 1st, 2nd or 3rd time in the past. I had high hopes I’d be able to beat it like I had many times before. Somehow having the knowledge of how miserable it was going to be made me more confident because I just knew I had to deal with the expected symptoms & pain & get through it. Little did I know that this infection comes back stronger & I take on more suffering than imaginable each time. I only lived through it thanks to my little sister for a stool transplant. Yup! It’s exactly what it sounds like. Go look it up lol. Even now I battle it chronically & it’s made a huge impact in my autoimmune manifestations, allergies, sensitivities & more. It’s all led up to now. My last infection was March 2017 & any time I have antibiotics I will usually get it so it makes living with both and under-active and overactive immune system even more complex. I’m a much stronger person having gone through what I have at such a young age & as difficult as it’s been, it puts life into a whole different perspective I could never truly explain unless you experienced it yourself. I never knew I could be even more grateful for the simplest of things more than I always had been. Everything is so much deeper, meaningful & honestly, temporary. 💕 #lifeofnessleigh
