Today, in honor of HM The Queen and HRH Prince Philip’s 70th wedding anniversary, let’s take a look at the tiara the then, Princess Elizabeth, wore as she walked down the aisle in 1947.
Queen Mary’s Fringe Tiara was originally a wedding gift from Queen Victoria to her grandsons wife, the future Queen Mary. It was a fringe tiara/necklace bought from Collingwood & Co. Queen Mary wore it as a tiara on her wedding day and later as a choker. In 1919 she brought the piece to E. Wolff and Co. for Garrards and had it transformed into the piece we see today, a Russian style fringe tiara. There are several other fringe pieces in the Windsor’s vaults that we will look at in the future. Queen Mary wore the new tiara until the 1930’s when she gave it to her daughter-in-law, the Duchess of York, later Queen Elizabeth the Queen Mother. In 1947, she lent it to her daughter to wear on her wedding day. The tiara was a rather touching tribute to the bride’s grandmother Queen Mary, as it was originally her wedding tiara. As Princess Elizabeth dressed for her wedding, the tiara snapped off of its frame and collapsed. There was a scramble as jewelers hastened to relate the tiara, though the Queen Mother was heard comforting her daughter explaining that they had plenty of other tiaras to choose from. The tiara was mended, though a gap can be seen towards it’s front in the Queen’s wedding pictures. The Queen Mother retained the tiara after the wedding and later lent it to her granddaughter Princess Anne at her wedding in 1973. The Queen inherited the tiara after her mother’s death.
Had such a lovely time visiting my beloved Melbourne! Highlights were a sneaky child free obike ride to a cafe, puffing billy and the Lego discovery centre! Oh and seeing good friends (even if they did give me gastro - 100% worth it!). Today I'm at home, recovering and hoping to be right for my 'day job' tomorrow.
“Easey like Sunday mornings”
Easey’s - Collingwood $$
Order- Rowdy Double Cheeseburger 2x beef patties, 2x American cheddar, bacon, jalapeños, pickles, onions, ketchup & mustard.
Fried chicken sandwich - southern fried buttermilk chicken, pickle spears, lettuce, honey mustard & ranch sauce.
If you’re looking for a cool and unique burger joint..look no further. Easeys is definitely the spot that’s different from any other burger place in Melbourne. Note, sit by the window for city views.
Their menu consisted of 9 burgers (including veggo options for “your mate”) and an equal amount of sides. Easeys keep their menu simple and have the option to add and build your own creation.
I ordered the ‘Rowdy double cheeseburger’ and thank the skies, no brioche bun!! My burger was cooked really well and the jalapeños gave it that much needed punch of heat and flavour (highlight if I must say). Vince ordered his preferred ‘southern fried chicken sandwich’ which was quite fresh and in his words “not overly filling” (growing a big head over his burger triumph last week). Only down fall was the chicken, being quite thinner compared to other places, this caused the chicken to be bit on the dry side. Our side of poutine was delish! Similar chips to the franchise Schnitz covered in gravy and dollops of mozzarella. This place is definitely a fun and quirky concept and would also go down as a great watering hole with the selection of beers on tap, cocktails and wines. (extra points for beer). All food was consumed: Jodie- 1 Vince- 1

"This here is the Bronson. It's a coconut fried beef brisket kbab and it's off the charts good. Served with tomato jam, rendang curry mayo, cucumber and carrot slaw. So fresh and super tasty." 📷 @jimmysburgers
