Good Sunday morning from Glastonbury Festival! There are two hundred thousand people here with hundreds of great food stalls!
Reminded me of the story of the feeding of the five thousand...when Jesus showed compassion for the people in such a practical way...they must have been amazed!! Some of the bible stories we were taught as children can become very familiar. It's good to take a moment and imagine what it must have really been like!!
Here's the whole story from Matthew 14 verses 13-21 if you want to read it. Hope you have a great day! 😊
"When Jesus heard what had happened, he withdrew by boat privately to a solitary place. Hearing of this, the crowds followed him on foot from the towns. When Jesus landed and saw a large crowd, he had compassion on them and healed their sick.
As evening approached, the disciples came to him and said, “This is a remote place, and it’s already getting late. Send the crowds away, so they can go to the villages and buy themselves some food.”
Jesus replied, “They do not need to go away. You give them something to eat.”
“We have here only five loaves of bread and two fish,” they answered.
“Bring them here to me,” he said. And he directed the people to sit down on the grass. Taking the five loaves and the two fish and looking up to heaven, he gave thanks and broke the loaves. Then he gave them to the disciples, and the disciples gave them to the people. They all ate and were satisfied, and the disciples picked up twelve basketfuls of broken pieces that were left over. The number of those who ate was about five thousand men, besides women and children."
We are living in very divisive times. There is so much hate in the world right now. The actions of bad apples are tearing us apart and dictating how we relate to each other. Hate is not the answer. Hate achieves nothing except destroying our humanity. We need to choose #love . We need to choose #compassion . We need to choose #kindness . We need to choose #unity . We need to choose #peace . We need to choose #forgiveness .
Wage peace with your breath.
Breathe in firemen and rubble,
Breathe out whole buildings and flocks of red wing blackbirds.
Breathe in terrorists and breathe out sleeping children
And freshly mown fields.
Breathe in confusion and breathe out maple trees.
Breathe in the fallen and breathe out lifelong friendships intact.
Wage peace with your listening: hearing sirens, pray loud.
Remember your tools: flower seeds, clothes pins, clean rivers.
Play music, memorize the words for thank you in three languages.
Learn to knit, and make a hat.
Think of chaos as dancing raspberries,
As the outbreath of beauty
Or the gesture of fish.
Swim for the other side.
Never has the world seemed so fresh and precious.
Have a cup of tea and rejoice.
Act as if armistice has already arrived.
The Secret to Happiness and Peace of Mind
If we allow the mind to fall into a state of deep acceptance for things as they are, we find happiness and peace of mind. It is as simple as that.
We think that getting what we want will make us happy, but once we achieve one desire, we move onto the next; and so it goes on in a never-ending cycle.
The truth about true happiness, is that we do not find it until our desires fall away and we accept life as it is.
This does not mean that we shouldn't have goals or pursue our dreams, it just means that we shouldn't let our desires consume us, not to the point where we believe that we can't be happy without the object of our desire or affection; it is this clinging and attachment that causes suffering.
The secret of happiness is to live our life and pursue our dreams, but also to let what comes, come, and what goes, go.
Let the river of life flow; embrace everything that life brings and let go of everything it takes away.
If you are at peace with life, then you are happy. It is as simple as that.
