I always laugh when I dig through old photos of family vacations because 90% of the albums are scenery and landmarks...no people. Iโ€™m sure at the time the photos of the Grand Canyon, the Golden Gate Bridge, or the streets of Santorini all seemed like important things to document....But now I wish there were more faces, because at the end of the day itโ€™s really the people that make the memories, and the relationships that make life worth living.

So today I hit a HUGE milestone. I have officially reached the twenties in my pounds to lose before I hit my goal weight. That means I've lost 21 pounds with 29 more to go! That might not seem like a lot (especially since I've started this journey almost two years ago) but if you've seen my earlier posts, I went probably 8 or 9 months without losing a single pound. Actually, my metabolism was stagnant the entire time I nursed - and I nursed for 17 months. So, slowly, things have been happening. The one thing that I've taken away from my journey so far is #consistency and never giving up. And celebrating every victory, no matter how small. Taking two years to lose 21 pounds is just fine by me. Even more than that, even though I'm still larger than I've been pre-pregnancy, I have become more comfortable in my body than I've ever been. I'm really going to push myself this last month before Desmond turns two. As sore as I was this morning I knew pushing myself too hard would most likely injure me. I did low-impact cardio and gave my sore muscles some TLC. There are plenty of people on the Internet who will have you believe that if you eat nothing but healthy foods you will lose weight regardless of how many calories you consume. Sorry to say, but this is complete BS. If youโ€™re eating more calories than you are burning each day, that body fat wonโ€™t budge.

Eating sufficient protein is a key component of a fat loss diet. Protein is the most satiating of the macros, so it will help keep you full. It has the highest thermic effect of all the macros, so you will burn more calories to digest it. & it is necessary for the repair & retention of muscle tissue. If you arenโ€™t consuming approximately .8-1 gram per pound of bodyweight (or target bodyweight if you have a significant amount of weight to lose), start looking for ways to increase that amount.

What's important is finding a nutrition that best suits you. If you hate the way you are eating, you will not be able to adhere to it consistently. Also, donโ€™t be too restrictive. Find a way to incorporate foods you enjoy so that you donโ€™t feel deprived.
