Owen and I made our first #FunfettiCake two weekends ago, and he was quite proud of the finished #cake . While it was baking, he sat near the oven until it was finished. And waiting for the cake to cool to frost it felt like an ETERNITY to him. Remember that feeling? Kids are so sweet. I kept 1/3 of the cake and sent the rest home with him. #KidsWhoBake#baking#CookingWithKids#frosting#sprinkles

Eight Hand Eight Minute Salad.
It can take a lot of time and a lot of work to eat healthy on a daily basis! Thankfully, I don't have to do it on my own. With eight hands instead of two this salad took us eight minutes to make. That's the power of team work. Our reward was a splash in the pool! (We made this to accompany our one pan spaghetti and meatballs dish. Both gave us dinner and lunch the following day). 1 head Romain lettuce, chopped
1 cucumber, cut in half and then into thin slices
3 tomatoes, sliced
A few thin slices of red onion (I tell my kids to pick them out and leave them on the side of their plate if they don't want to eat them). #wholesomeliving#cookingwithkids#teachingchildrenthevalueofwork

Last week, aspiring chefs from across our sites gathered to compete in our annual Iron Go!Chefs competition. For the next several weeks, we will be sharing with you some of their literature-inspired #recipes .
The first recipe is from team (No) Sneaky Jalapenos! from our East Harlem Center. Their dish—“Dragons Would Probably also Love These Tostadas”—was inspired by the book “Dragons Love Tacos,” by Adam Ruben. This delicious and creative dish won them Best All Around Iron Go!Chefs.

🌿 FOOD FACT FRIDAY 🌿 Today I'm celebrating the beautiful Beetroot! They may dye your hands red but it's so worth it because these amazing root vegetables fall into the superfood category and are totally awesome for your little ones ✨ They are a great source of iron, Vitamin A & C, fibre, folate (naturally occurring folic acid), and also contains nitrates, betaine, magnesium and other awesome antioxidants 💪🏼 Health claims suggest beetroot can help lower blood pressure and boost exercise performance. They are also said to be great for little ones, aiding in digestion, curing anemia, as well as increasing brain activity and development. A pretty powerful vegetable and in season now...so make the most and get eating 😀

School holiday is almost here (Victoria time).. it is a great time to do lots of activities with the kids including the good old "decorating" Gingerbread Man Cookies. Here's the recipe for it... INGREDIENTS:
125 g butter, softened
½ cup brown sugar
½ cup golden syrup
2 ½ cups plain flour, sifted
2 teaspoons ground ginger
1 teaspoon cinnamon
1 teaspoon bicarbonate of soda
- Preheat the oven to 190 Degrees.
- Place butter and sugar in a bowl and beat with electric beaters until light and creamy.
- Add the golden syrup, flour, ginger and bicarbonate of soda and mix to form a smooth dough.
- Refrigerate for 30-60 minutes.
- Roll out the dough on a lightly floured surface to about 4mm thick.
- Cut out whatever shapes you like. If you want to use mini M&M’s to decorate push them into the dough now.
- Place on baking trays lined with baking paper. Bake for 8-10 minutes or until golden brown.
- Cool on the tray for 5-10 minutes then on cooling rack. #gingerbreadcookies#cookingwithkids#kidsinthekitchen#kidsactivities#toddleractivities#funathome#playfullearning#earlychildhoodeducation#mamakukokihandal#homemade#homecooking#recipeshare#shareresep#holidayactivity#sensoryplay

So my boy just chose his own dinner at Tesco came home and prepped it!
Chopped off the head gutted it, filleted one side (with me holding over his hand as he is only 6) pin boned it then wrapped it in foil with lemongrass, lemon, ginger and dill that Molly crushes with pestle and mortar. #rainbowtrout#cookingwithkids#homecooking#fish#food#fishfriday#fishsupper love the look on the guy face in Tesco when he asked if I wanted the fish prepping and I said no he's going to do it.
Oh guys, from here on out my son and the contents of my bank account belong to The French Kitchen. He's currently nomming a caramelized onion, Brie, and Gruyere tartine and dreaming about the cooking classes he's going to take. Quote (in hushed and reverent tone): Imagine me making soup!
I just love it when I kill two birds with one stone at mealtime!!
Children ate every last bite of my special stir fry and I met my macros at the same time, yay!
Black bean spaghetti flavoured with soy sauce, stir fried veg (carrot, pepper, edamame beans, tofu) and dry spiced cauliflower.
