#fallforcostume challenge, Day 26: Secrets. Costuming with a time and buget constraints call for some sneakiness on occasion. @gwendolyngrey and I swapped our extra stash fabric that is less than period appropriate to create undergarments for our current steampunk projects. No one has to know that they are bright cotton prints, they are underpinnings!! It'll just be our little secret...
Working on some sparkly things!
Costume for a friend who's doing a pole competition. And coperish sequin fabric is going to go on dance trousers I'm making to sort of match the harem pants the girls are wearing. Theirs' are more gold, but this was the best I could find, everything else was too yellow, or pale, or completely the wing colour! Hopefully it's okay to be different, being the only bloke haha!
#fallforcostume Day 25: Tailoring
Now admittedly the first two of these are rather on the 'light tailoring' side, but still! In the interest of not reposting too much, I dug out two blazers I made at uni, sadly to find that I've filed out and outgrown them, and more distressingly the moths have had a go at them too! Grrr I hate moths eating my things!! Anyway, the eccentric 'chalk stripe' blazer is fun because I experimented with huge shoulder pads in it! And the double breasted blazer with the frayed lapels is kind of interesting because the lining is covered in symbols and quotations! I did that for an assignment called 'Personal Armour', in which we had to make a concept garment that would sort of 'protect' us from our fears. I think my idea was to make something outwardly conforming, and yet wild and unusual on the inside... or something. I always felt a bit different and as though people judged me on that. Stay turned for the secret lining!
And I've included another picture of that tail coast I made once, because I seem to remember I properly pad stitched the makeshift canvas in and all that.
I never thought I would be asked to make another set, let alone 2 sets, of claws. I am really interested to see what kind of high school play needs these but not a while costume. #craftymama#sewing#costumemaking
