Snow! Smoking chimney! Glowing yellow room light! Traditional cottage feels! Eeek. This is full-on gorgeous by @our_haystack. Kate actually lives here so her account has loads of great shots from snowmageddon yesterday. I wonder if she would swap her lovely home with my leaking garden shed? Also: big thanks to all the comments yesterday! I did try and reply/like each message but Instagram gets a bit miffed after a while.
Now... spot the house with the ROAD right through it? You could say this is a classic example of British engineering! Hmmmm. We need a road but we also need a house... no problem. Let's have both! Castle Combe has been rightfully called 'The Prettiest Village in England' and with good reason. The village houses are all of typical Cotswold type, constructed in stone with thick walls and roofs made from split natural stone tiles.
Not only do you have these classic Cotswold cottage homes to enjoy when you visit, but close by is the The Chedworth Roman Villa - a Roman villa located at Chedworth, Gloucestershire. It is one of the largest Roman villas in Britain and was built circa 120AD. Apparently the spring-fed pool in the northwest corner of the villa complex was the location of the apsidal shrine to the water-nymphs! How fancy is that...! You’ve stepped up your game. I woke up yesterday morning with 12 inches of snow blanketing our sleepy little Cotswold village (and yes that is a kid using a surfboard as a 🛷!)
Sadly you’re still letting London down. When I got back into town last night almost all the snow had gone.
There have only been 4 white Christmasses in London since 1900. Surely you can do better than that?

Lo scorso weekend è arrivata la neve in tutta la Gran Bretagna! ❄ Ringraziamo @monalogue per questo scatto di Castle Combe, Cotswolds! 😍⠀
Festive in the barn now! What better time of year to welcome 8 beautiful Cotswolds to our farm. The Vermont Sheep & Goat Association has been the best resource for our farm since we first started, connecting us with our first Shetland Sheep, and the rest is history. We’ve been able to help each other in this sturdy little state and I’m very much a believer in ‘pay it forward.’ Wenda & Heather had to make a heartbreaking decision to part with their sheep, for now, and we’re honored to be able to be their new home. I’ve not memorized everyone’s names yet, but there’s Agnes(very friendly!), Harry(the big guy on campus), Penelope(also sweet!), Anne, Amelia & Jean. The two ram lambs we have named George & William, and we will be having them wethered to stay on as part of our fiber flock. This afternoon we have a little hoof trimming to do, then they can check out their bit of the great outdoors attached to their stall as their domain for this winter. I sure do love Cotswolds and had even considered getting lambs this year from a local Cotswold breeder. If ever I was to rename our farm, I might call it ‘Providence.’❤️
Beautiful warm light on a freezing afternoon in Snowshill. Walks like this make you appreciate how picturesque home and its surroundings are
You’ll be happy to know that tonight, with the help of Char & Miranda, the new Cotswolds all had manis and pedis and they’re just great! We learned that William is a smiley guy, Harry is a big flirt, Agnes has great teeth!, Jean has a bit of arthritis or something in her front right leg, Anne & Amelia are A-O-K, Penelope’s got a super-fleece, & little George wears the crumbs in his coat from everyone else’s snacking!
