BIG Thanks to the #MBAA for hosting an open house at Root Shoot on Friday! What a fun weekend celebrating #craftbeer at @coloradostateuniversity. We so appreciate our brewing partners for donating beer for the night.
May 19 - New life in our Willamette Valley locale! Barley emergence near the #hops at @goschiefarms. The dirt clods are not ideal, but symptomatic of an incredibly difficult (wet) spring seeding. Still, the barley is off to a strong start.
Yesterday @barleyworld's Barley Day, touring around with Pat Hayes and other great minds. This year's highlight: a stark contrast in maturity between fall and spring seeded barley. Lots of emerging opportunity to mitigate risk in our dry-farmed malt production systems.
These pictures of the winter (and spring) malting barley may be over a week old at this point, but they represent over 60 unique varieties being trialed at Kellogg Biological Station in Hickory Corners, Michigan. KBS is a research farm (among other things) administered by Michigan State University and is invaluable to our region's agricultural advancement and education. How cool is this?? Our friends at @mountaintapbrewery in #Steamboat is one of 10 #COCraftBreweries that brewed exclusively for this weekend's Colorado Public Lands Day on May 20th. "Get Out!" #Saison was named to encourage folks to 'get out' and enjoy, support, protect, and respect public lands.
It's a 5.5% ABV that is earthy, spicy, tangy, and quenching.
So... 'get out' to Steamboat and have a taste!
Very excited to tear open this 50lb sack and brew up some beer with locally crafted grain from @epiphanycraftmalt. Thanks to my friends at @raleighhomebrewers for making me a deal I could not refuse. May just brew a batch tonight! Stay tuned... 👍🏻

Cashmere Outside - IPA - 6.6%
A collaboration brew with @drinkcsb and @limagrainbelgium. Brewed with @troubadourmaltings Pale Malt and Root Shoot Vienna Malt, both grown and malted in Colorado. These awesome new grains provide a subtle and delicious malt character, which we paired with Cashmere and Simcoe hops, resulting in a killer IPA! How bout THAT?!
