Callister Brewing, a collaborative Nano-Brewery in East Vancouver BC, will be brewing with our Obsidian Malt, an exotic & ancient grain variety. Despite its dark purple exterior, it’s still a pale malt, and adds only a slight reddish hue to the wort.
RYE IS BACK! After a brief hiatus, we have resumed production of our rye malt. This malt adds a nice, warming spice to just about any ale or lager. Or when distilled, produces our favorite style of whiskey! 🍺🥃

"The Maltster's Thumb". The white chalky strip along the inside of the thumb is a true sign of a maltster. This I caused when a kernel is rubbed between the thumb and the index finger. A undermodified kernel will be a gummy ball while a well modified kernel will leave a white chalky stripe on the finger and thumb. This method has been used by maltster's for thousands of years to check the progression of cell and protein breakdown during germination.
