Meet the MoonHouse: Andrew, a.k.a. "The Beard".
Workhorse, handyman, BBQ master, and occasionally bro-ista, this guy can do it all! He moved to South Lake in 2013 after only a short visit, and quickly called Tahoe home; co-founding MoonHouse in 2014 and building his dreams.
This guy LOVES slaying pow in the winter, cliff jumping in the summer, and searching out great brews for all the great times!
Balcones Texas Blue Corn Bourbon Batch BCB 16-1 - Jim Murray’s Whisky Bible 2018 US Micro Whisky of the Year 🥃
A well deserved award. As a whisky, it’s great; as a bourbon, meh. To me it’s a corn whisky finished in new, charred oak barrels, and I prefer my bourbon to have some rye/wheat and malted barley (though legally not required). Using this whisky of the year, I decided to find my best whisky glass of the year.
Whisky Glass Challenge - Round 1: Nosing
5. Tumbler: Minimal & comparatively no vapors- it’s what my dad used when whisky sales nearly evaporated.
4. Glencairn Canada: Meh- too much room for ice and so it works for my relatives but thins out the vapors too much for me.
3. Norlon: Okay, but expected more- the first rocket science glass.
2. Glencairn: Pulls the vapors together wonderfully for a tight nosing (biased perhaps as it has been my glass of choice)- the first real whisky glass.
1. Kentucky Bourbon Trail: The winner by a nose (color me surprised but it’s just-right bowl helps hold a heaping of vapors)- the first real, official bourbon glass.
6. Cradle: Not available at local store.
7. Riedel: Available but no drink from lead crystal.
Closing thought, yes, color is not an accurate measure of taste, but I do prefer the color of the whisky in the top three compared to the bottom two. In the next review, the top three move on to sip, sip, sipping of Round 2.
