An Intercultural Development Inventory (IDI) is a way to quantify people's perceived and measured cultural awareness and sensitivity—a vital skill for engineers. A team of our engineering professors looked at how students doing international service learning perceived their cultural competency compared to how they measured up. There's a gap. Our latest #michigantechunscripted guest blog digs into possible solutions and offers details on this weekend's D80 conference, focused on development, design, and discovery for the poorest 80 percent of humanity. 🌎🌍🌏

If you're truly upset about the Dove ad, then stop buying any products by Unilever, Europe's 7th most valuable company. This includes; Axe/Lynx, Ben & Jerry's, Dove, Flora/Becel, Heartbrand, Hellmann's/Best Foods, Knorr, Lipton, Lux/Radox, Omo/Surf, Rexona/Sure, Sunsilk, TRESemmé, Magnum, Vaseline and VO5. I'm boycotting them ALL, but too bad my one source of income won't truly hit their pockets. WE HAVE GOT TO LEARN TO STOP CRYING AND PROTESTING AND HIT THOSE POCKETS!!!! People had the nerve to say the post was insensitive, but I'm still going to buy it. Man, y'all silly. But I guess we're the same group of people who let schools disrespect our children, but fight for our kids to be integrated in that same school. Silly! You only like Dove because of it's history and it's what you're used to. Well, buy Black and allow them tenure and then your kids will buy the same brand because you did. But we can't unite for nothing. I will be purchasing a new soap, deodorant and lotion after researching Black-owned brands. So sick of this crap and Shea Moisture lost my bid too. Pitiful! #BuyBlack#Blackowned#boycottdove#boycottvaseline#beautybrands#beautyproducts#beauty#blackconsumers#blackbuyingpower#blackownesbusiness#discrimination#racism#dobetter

"When we live exclusively in our primary culture, we become blind, shortsighted or farsighted to others" Diana Patton - from my"Introduce Me as Your Friend, Not Your Black Friend" talk at the Toledo Human Trafficking Conference. This talk was well received. However, when I concluded, I felt undone. There's so much more to discuss and share. I will be sharing more in the coming weeks. BE SURE to follow me on #dpinspires#socialjustice#humantraffickingconference#culturalcompetency#culture#keeplearning

4) And of course the neti pot and goldenseal for those pesky allergies to stay away for the weekend!

Every individual carries with them a culture worth recognizing. A culture is a practice; a way of life, which does not have limitations, especially on the basis of their skin tone. Do not confuse culture for race/ethnicity, as it goes beyond that. Do not strip away someone's most complex of identities for the sake of unifying yourself amongst other cultures. #SigmaLambdaGamma#CultureIsPride#PrideIsSuccess#Multiculturalism#identity @kg_gammas
Travel and food writer, Sucheta Rawal shares how her cat, Mr. Beato inspired her “Beato Goes To” children's book series that helps teach kids about the world. Beato's adventures around the globe teach him about local cuisines, traditions, and lessons of religious tolerance. With the recent video release of nurse Alex Wubbel's arrest while advocating for her patient, we believe this video is helpful in further addressing and explaining the role of nurses in the hospital setting.

While I was at #uopdental I was able to meet amazing individuals that opened my eyes to important topics that went beyond dentistry, in particular the importance of cultural competency as a provider and member of society. Thanks to the help and guidance of people like @uopdugonistan and the support of our amazing Dean Nadershahi, Dr. Hayashida, Dr. Fredekind, and my right hand woman @ashamazingley, we were able to establish the Pacific #SNDA chapter. Today I got a pic of our Pacific SNDA chapter continuing the legacy of presenting #CultureoftheMonth to share with students, faculty, and staff the stories of different students, their family's journey to the US, and their life as multicultural Americans and how they arrived to dental school. I heard this soon to be Dentista eloquently presented in celebration of #nationalhispanicheritagemonth I am so proud of #PacificSNDA , this is exactly what our country needs right now. #makeamericagreatagain#diversity#culturalcompetency
