10 MAY: Are cyclists good for cities, or do they get preferential treatment? As London and other cities build designated cycle paths separating cyclists from other road users, these schemes face criticism from drivers and pedestrians who resent what they see as favouritism towards those on two-wheels. Not much exciting to report this week. Just back to my normal commute north to south. Cycling in London has got so much better with these cycle super highways although some are better than others. The cs8 I ride every day is a joke of bus stops and parking spaces meaning you are constantly back in the stream of traffic (and lorries!).But this one near Blackfriars is much better. #cs6#cs8#tfl#cyclesuperhighway#londoncyclist#cyclesafe#commuting
#avenueverte#london2paris begins! On our most noble bicycles (second-hand Thorn Ravens), with Lyra comfy in her Burley Solo buggy, we set off today, cycling 30 miles to Salfords, just beyond the cacophonous M25. We followed the well-signposted National Bike Routes 20 and 21. Much autumnal beauty along the River Wandle and up on the Farthing Downs. Can highly recommend the £6 lunch menu at the Woodman in Banstead. For anyone who is terrified already, it was possible for us to get from our flat to the outskirts of London almost entirely on the #cyclesuperhighway network or separated cycle paths. #safetyfirst#dingaling
Full house at the CS9 Cycle Superhighway debate at the George IV. On behalf of the community, thanks to the Chiswick Calendar for organising.
