I’d like to introduce you to Will, he is a 12 week old Lab/Shepard mix that we are fostering until he finds his furever home. He and his sister, Ramona, were rescued by @spottydogrescue.
Making the decision to add a dog to your family is a 10-15 year commitment. Let’s face it, we humans can be extremely impulsive! We see a puppy and fall in love with all of the cuteness.
Do you know what happens in the brain when we simply look at a puppy? Dopamine and oxytocin is triggered, the same neurotransmitters that are released when we look at babies, and when we fall in love.
But what happens as that puppy gets bigger and older? In the world of rescue, it is all too common to see dogs brought to shelters or worse, when one does not wish to commit to this amount of time.
Please do your research before making the commitment to adopt: +Choose a dog with an energy level equal to or lower than your own, so you know how much mental and physical stimulation will be required. +Size matters - be sure you can handle and walk the dog +Don’t overlook senior dogs, they needs homes just a badly as puppies. They may need less exercise and more health care, but the love they give in return is the reward.
+Do you have time for a dog? Dogs cannot be ignored just because you're tired or busy. They require food, water, exercise, care, and companionship every day of every year. +Are you willing to make the time for training? The key to having a happy dog is setting clear rules and boundaries. It’s important to guide new pups with positive rewards. They’ll repeat good behavior if they’re praised for it. Dogs can’t possibly know how you want them to behave until you and your family teach them.
+Spay & Neuter is a must! The only way to help stop pet overpopulation is to make sure that no more unwanted puppies are born.
If adoption isn’t for you, perhaps you can advocate on behalf of our furry friends and demand new laws regarding animal welfare. One that appreciates that animals are family, not mere property, with a legal right to protection and love.

Don't let them lose the knowledge they gained this school year. One way to prevent the summer slide is reading. Come read with Bacchus the therapy dog at @thinkeryatx today at 4p. 📖🐶 We'll be in a new location on the first floor, & have a new signup process especially for our school age readers. Summer reading list books will be available. 📚
