In no time more than this year (or even the past few months) does Nicholas Party’s meditation on the measures time seem more apt.
Our article on DC's Latino Murals continue.....Today we feature, “Unity,” a street mural that has grace the Pepco substation off of 18th Street NW in Adams Morgan for more than three decades. Though its once vibrant tropical colors have faded, it is still a cool mural that beautifies the neighborhood. It was created in the summer of 1982 by a group of Latin American Youth Center students led by artists Ligia (Becker) Williams and the late Allen “Big Al” Carter. holacultura.com/dc-latino-mura… #holaculturadc#muralism#DCArts#localdc#adamsmorgan
Elaine de Kooning’s JFK (swipe to see) has always been my favorite presidential portrait at the @smithsonian. It may just have to move over once @kehindewiley is done with Obama’s. This is so dope that I CAN NOT wait for the unveiling!
This detail shot of #BarbaraHepworth 's sculpture brought to you by @richardgreengallery, who also shared this bit of Hepworth insight: "I only learned to love bronze," Hepworth wrote to Ben Nicholson in 1966, "when I found that it was gentle and I could file it and carve it and chisel it. Each one is a 'person'to me – as much as a marble."
"We the People of the United States, in Order to form a more perfect Union..." We're sharing a teaser from our upcoming series, #TheNewAmericanDreamers featuring entrepreneur and philanthropist @frankfislam. 🇺🇸
The other half of #petworthartsdc is here in Cali and loving the weather, the art and meeting so many walks of life. I wanted to share this beautiful mural, love Carlos Santana, and the excitement of returning home as we prepare for our biggest event yet, Dia de Los Muertos! I’m still working on our website, so please excuse the mess 🤖 but for now if you click the link in our bio it will take you to where you can apply in our Call for Altars and our first Student Themed First Friday, where local DC students have the opportunity to express their creativity and strengthen their family ties by honoring a loved one through performance and visual art.
@mmandle and I are so excited to share this beautiful cultural event that is dear to our hearts and ecstatic to collaborate with local organizations in bringing the first Dia de Los Muertos celebration to Petworth for all to enjoy! My newest piece (12x16 watercolor on paper) is a throwback. When I was in college, my boyfriend lived in another state. We used to send each other drawings and painting, and most of mine were this hybrid of no-lines, vaguely-floral coloring and paint doodling style. (I still hated watercolor, so though I was studying oils and collage in school, I was sending him acrylic abstract doodles on canvas board. I hope he set them on fire. Lol) This style is mainly about stress relief for me, and I might not have finished this one if my brother had not seen it and liked it. Happy Tuesday! 🎉
