These shrimp were everything while I was growing up. An adaptation of my mothers recipe. Peel and Eat shrimp was served at every gathering. About twenty ingredients..and then butter. Can't wait for @kithandkindc #friendsandfamilydc 🎥 @rlopez809
On September 20th, Jaleo Bethesda invited some of the local farmers to host a Farm to Table dinner. The evening started with a cocktail reception with Ben Wenk of Three Springs Fruit Farm, Janice Wiles of Doce Lume Farm and Kane Lloyd of Westmoreland Berry Farm, followed by a seated multi-course dinner, highlighting produce straight from the farm.
During the first hour guests had the opportunity to enjoy sangria with artistic appetizers. These featured a cone filled with tomato marmalade, sheep’s milk and cheese, a skewer of watermelon on tomato, and endives with orange segments with toasted almonds and goat cheese.
The first dinner course was served with a Marfi Brut. This sparking varietal is a medium bodied sparkling wine that tastes of citrus, pairing well with the chilled apple and fennel soup. The soup was made of sweet red apples, fennel and a cherry vinegar.
For the next course, we had colorful baby beets atop a golden yogurt puree with pistachios. It was paired with the highly acidic Uriondo Txakolina, a light wine that has hints of floral notes and citrus that paired perfectly with the beautiful beets.
Next we had grilled octopus with sweet onion puree and heirloom tomatoes with a tomato vinaigrette. To drink, we had the Mas Petit with both the octopus and the upcoming duck. This is a medium bodied red cabernet with dark fruit flavors on the nose and a lingering finish. The octopus was made very simply. It was served upon sweet onions which were cooked with salt and butter with a tomato vinaigrette.
The last savory course and highlight of the evening was a duck confit with wine soaked pears atop a pear sauce. The duck was cooked for seven hours prior to serving and tasted divine!
Last, we had the delicious red sangria ice with seasonal fruit, strawberry gelle and mint. This unique desert is flavored with clove and juniper berry.
Jaleo Bethesda is planning two additional dinners this fall. Dates and details will be added shortly. #jaleo#joseandres#farmtotable#washingtondc#washingtondcphotographer#chef#cheflife#yelp#yelpdc#cheers#yummy#edibledc#wine#sangria#eater#dcfoodporn#dcfoodie#goodeats#truecooks#bethesda
Not gonna lie, whenever grilled octopus is on the menu there's a 99.99% chance I'll be ordering it. The one @hankspastabar is by no means an exception. I love that they decided to stack the tentacles on top of one another and had a simply dressed arugula salad on the side. Def insta-worthy plating and very well executed dish. #🐙 #dcnomster

Last week we were lucky enough to show off @babylonstoren's wines with Steve Mason's special menu. Imagine this. Butter poached Maine lobster with New England linquica and New England cockles in an uni lobster sauce with viognier. We're drooling all over again. Thanks to the @grilledoysterco and @acebevdc for hosting and congrats to @babylonstoren on some great scores on @timatkinmw latest report. A lot of work goes into making wine - they've earned their bragging rights.
A life-changing bowl of goods is what's going down for lunch today! 😍 A bed of organic greens topped with red bell pepper, grape tomatoes, cucumber slices from my garden, a @sietefoods cassava and chia tortilla, a baked egg in an avocado half, and a dollop of plain @siggisdairy yogurt 💯
Avocado Egg 🥑 ➡️ Slice an avocado in half, remove the pit, and scoop out enough avocado to be able to fit an egg into it. In a bowl, crack an egg. Using a slotted spoon, gently place the yolk inside of the avocado cavity, and add in some of the egg white if you have enough room. Bake in a preheated 400 degree oven for 15-20 minutes.
