When I was updating some of the republished articles on Leafleur.com last week, I decided to add a search for Epilepsy and found a whole bunch of information from 2015 about what researchers were looking at in regards to Temporal Lobe Epilepsy and Music. I am in no shape to go over and log in now to pull it all to share at the moment, but a quick phone search showed me a similar article published on apa.org from around the same time. Thought I'd screen cap. Many of you have seen me in seizure with music controlling it and bringing me out of it all, and some have seen me triggered by certain sounds or melodies, and it is really interesting to see the beginnings of understanding the why/how it happens. If I can make it through going back to school to finally finish my BS (hoping in Biological Sciences) I was already hoping to look into music therapy for Epilepsy and other conditions if I continued my studies and finding all these old articles just give me the bigger push I need to keep going.
Oddly enough, I was only able to write this after a song took over out of the blue and came out of my mouth for a few minutes which in turn "brought me back" and thus reminded me of these articles. Arm still a bit numb and hard to use but the brain is working much better. For now. Thinking meds and music is in order. Stat. "Blackberry Spacewreck" 🌿 and "Dead Astronaut" 🎵, perhaps? Those should pair nicely... 😘💨 (Find out more at @loveleafleur
- link to Leafleur Magazine in that bio. You can listen to some of my favorite tracks there, including a small feature on the aforementioned "Dead Astronaut".) Thanks! Keep kicking those bucket lists and fulfilling those dreams for yourself, your communities, and the world! Happy Summer! (Or winter if you're down under.)
