Technicians assist as the Orion crew module for Exploration Mission-1 is moved toward the thermal chamber in the Neil Armstrong Operations and Checkout Building high bay at NASA's Kennedy Space Center in Florida. The crew module will undergo a thermal cycle test to assess the workmanship of critical hardware and structural locations. The test also demonstrates crew module subsystem operations in a thermally stressing environment to confirm no damage or anomalous hardware conditions as a result of the test. The Orion spacecraft will launch atop NASA's Space Launch System rocket on its first uncrewed integrated flight.

Hubble time! ⠀

ESO 580-49, may seem tranquil and unassuming, but this spiral galaxy actually displays some explosive tendencies.⠀
⠀
In October of 2011, a cataclysmic burst of high-energy gamma-ray radiation — known as a gamma-ray burst, or GRB — was detected coming from the region of sky containing ESO 580-49. Astronomers believe that the galaxy was the host of the GRB, given that the chance of a coincidental alignment between the two is roughly 1 in 10 million. At a distance of around 185 million light-years from Earth, it was the second-closest gamma-ray burst (GRB) ever detected.⠀ Go to our @instagram Story to learn more and download this image. ⠀

Incredible panorama work of the Milky Way by @dereksturmanphotography
This astounding image was taken by the ISS crew while flying over northen part of Africa. The green envelope around our planet is the aurora. There are 2 types of auroras, one which is seen from the poles - northern and southern lights and the other is what's observed from outside of earth. I've done a post previously which explains both the types of auroras in detail.

The image focuses on the Earth covering a very small region of the night sky;hmm.. I think we'd call it space😅 Inspite of the region being small there are plenty of stars which are visible. Honestly speaking, we do not see these many stars from cities. "What beauty. I saw clouds and their light shadows on the distant dear earth…. The water looked like darkish, slightly gleaming spots…. When I watched the horizon, I saw the abrupt, contrasting transition from the earth's light-colored surface to the absolutely black sky. I enjoyed the rich color spectrum of the earth. It is surrounded by a light blue aureole that gradually darkens, becoming turquiose, dark blue, violet, and finally coal black." — Yuri Gagarin

This is my favorite dso image I've ever done, M42, decided to go back to the data and try some new updates that have come out in PixInsight (plus some new editing techniques I've learned). It's a tough target in that it probably has the highest dynamic range of any object in the night sky, it's impossible to capture all of it in a single exposure so it requires different exposure lengths and subtle HDR editing to make it look natural. Hopefully this smog will clear out so I can capture some h-alpha shots of this and add it to the final image.

Shot with my Nikon D7000 (full spectrum modified) and Astrotech AT65EDQ telescope on a Sirius EQ-G mount.

This image features the Orion Nebula (M42) with the Running Man Nebula (NGC 1977, NGC 1975, and NGC 1973) sitting ½ degree northeast (above). M42 is a well-known, bright nebula in the constellation Orion that can be seen with the naked eye. It lies at a distance of 1,300 lights years, and is the closest region of massive star formation to earth. The Orion Nebula is an example of a stellar nursery where new stars are being born with approximately 700 stars in various stages of formation.
The Running Man is a reflection nebula that lies 5,000 light-years from Earth and shines blue from the light of the young, not fully developed stars that scatter light more effective at the bluer end of the electromagnetic spectrum than the red. This scattering takes place when light streaming from the stars interacts with coarse grains of interstellar dust. NGC 1977 stretches above center, separated from NGC 1973 (below right) and NGC 1975 (below left) by darker regions of obscuring dust. This image totals nine hours of exposures through HA, red, green and blue filters using a Takahashi TOA-130 telescope and SBIG STL-1100 camera.

when particles are born together, like particle/antiparticle pairs or polarized photons, they are born entangled meaning that they are able to communicate over vast distances, meaning if one particle has a clockwise spin the other entangled particle would have a counter clockwise spin. If you were to use a magnetic field to reverse the spin of a certain particle the partner particle would correspondently know to spin the other direction over any distance instantaneously. Meaning faster than light communication. Albert Einstein commented on the phenomena calling it "spooky action at a distance". And think about it, since all the atoms in our body all came from the hot dense early universe, we were all born entangled. We are a part of interconnected universal consciousness.

RepostBy @blazing_heavens: "My good friend @astrofalls and I have been working on this album of images together the last couple of months! All the images (except for the one Orion portrait) were done with a standard DSLR set up on a Star Adventurer Equatorial Mount (tracker). One of the key elements to my own success with landscape astrophotography has been hanging around super talented deep space astrophotographers like @astrofalls and learning how to incorporate tracking into my workflow, so one idea I’ve had is to run an “Equatorial Mount + DSLR set up” workshop here in Arizona early next spring when the Milky Way is back in our view!

It is surrounded by a light blue aureole that gradually darkens, becoming turquiose, dark blue, violet, and finally coal black." — Yuri Gagarin #astronomy  #astrophysics  #beyondearth  #thenightsky  #stargazer  #spacetime  #stars  #stargazing  #telescope  #interstellar  #deepsky  #deepspace  #hubble  #cosmos  #universe  #gravitationallensing  #outerspace  #gravity  #science  #planets  #solarsystem  #observatory  #infinity  #spaceX  #nature  #astronomia  #beautiful  #physics

Don't miss it!

The annual shower will peak on the night of December 13 and into the early morning of December 14, when viewers can expect to see dozens of meteors an hour.
Meteor showers happen when Earth plows through a cloud of debris left behind by a passing space rock. The vast majority of meteors are no bigger than grains of sand, and they burn up when they slam into the planet’s upper atmosphere, creating brilliant streaks of light.

The Geminids are fun to watch because the meteors travel at slower speeds than most other annual showers, which means the streaks last longer. Moving through our atmosphere at around 20 miles a second, these meteors produce beautiful long arcs that are visible for at least a second or two.

The Geminids get their name from the Gemini constellation, because the meteors appear to radiate from that part of the sky. The best time to begin watching is when the constellation rises above the eastern horizon, which will occur after 9 p.m. local time.

Gemini will rise highest in the sky for viewers in the Northern Hemisphere.

Thanks for the video @astronerd_ronaldolai

Happy 18th anniversary XMM! 🎉⠀
⠀
Let's celebrate with a young massive star that began life around 25 times more massive than our own Sun is shedding shells of material and fast winds to create this dynamic scene captured by our veteran XMM-Newton.⠀
⠀
The image shows the detailed structure of the Crescent Nebula that shed a shell of material as it expanded into a red giant some 200 000 years ago. Fast winds emitted more recently have now collided with that material, causing the gasses in the bubble to heat up and emit X-rays, seen as blue in the image.⠀

Hi everyone. Our YouTube channel is now almost ready to go. I will be posting the link in the bio soon. Please do enjoy subscribing to it. I narrate all the latest ones too. And yes I do think of myself, as being a guide, and perhaps maybe you, as your reading this and being here as being one too. Part of how you will know is how you gravitate towards it and understand it. The photos, the narration, and more. Thanks
