Dominating Y-DNA Haplogroups In Europe And Surrounding Areas

In human genetics, a human Y-chromosome DNA haplogroup is a haplogroup defined by mutations in the non-recombining portions of DNA from the Y chromosome (called Y-DNA). Mutations that are shared by many people are called single-nucleotide polymorphisms(SNPs). The human Y-chromosome accumulates roughly two mutations per generation. Y-DNA haplogroups represent major branches of the Y-chromosome phylogenetic tree that share hundreds or even thousands of mutations unique to each haplogroup.

The Y-chromosomal most recent common ancestor (Y-MRCA, informally known as Y-chromosomal Adam) is the most recent common ancestor (MRCA) from whom all currently living men are descended patrilineally. Y-chromosomal Adam is estimated to have lived roughly 236,000 years ago in Africa. By examining other bottlenecks all Eurasian men are descended from a man who lived 69,000 years ago. Another major bottleneck occurred about 5,000 years ago and subsequently most Eurasian men can trace their ancestry back to a dozen ancestors who lived 5,000 years ago.

The British Empire comprised the dominions, colonies, protectorates, mandates and other territories ruled or administered by the United Kingdom and its predecessor states. It originated with the overseas possessions and trading posts established by England between the late 16th and early 18th centuries. At its height, it was the largest empire in historyand, for over a century, was the foremost global power. By 1913, the British Empire held sway over 412 million people, 23% of the world population at the time, and by 1920, it covered 35,500,000 km2 (13,700,000 sq mi), 24% of the Earth's total land area. As a result, its political, legal, linguistic and culturallegacy is widespread. At the peak of its power, the phrase "the empire on which the sun never sets" was often used to describe the British Empire, because its expanse around the globe meant that the sun was always shining on at least one of its territories.

The Middle East Compared To Countries With A Similar Human Development Index

The Human Development Index (HDI) is a composite statistic (composite index) of life expectancy, education, and per capita incomeindicators, which are used to rank countries into four tiers of human development. A country scores higher HDI when the lifespanis higher, the education level is higher, and the GDP per capita is higher. The HDI was developed by the UNDP and is based on the concept of human development, which was developed by Indian economist Amartya Senand Pakistani economist Mahbub ul Haq.

The 2010 Human Development Reportintroduced an Inequality-adjusted Human Development Index (IHDI). While the simple HDI remains useful, it stated that "the IHDI is the actual level of human development (accounting for inequality)", and "the HDI can be viewed as an index of 'potential' human development (or the maximum IHDI that could be achieved if there were no inequality)". The index is based on the human development approach, developed by Ul Haq, and is anchored in Sen's work on human capabilities, often framed in terms of whether people are able to "be" and "do" desirable things in life. Examples include—Beings: well fed, sheltered, healthy; Doings: work, education, voting, participating in community life. It must also be noted that the freedom of choice is central—someone choosing to be hungry (e.g. during a religious fast) is quite different to someone who is hungry because they cannot afford to buy food.

Early Human Migration Out of Africa

Earliest human migrations and expansions of archaic and modern humans across continents began 2 million years ago with the migration out of Africa of Homo erectus. This was followed by the migrations of other pre-modern humans including H. heidelbergensis, the likely ancestor of both anatomically modern humans and Neanderthals. Finally, the recent African origin paradigm suggests that Homo sapiens migrated out of Africa around 100,000 years ago, spread across Asia approximately 60,000 years ago, and subsequently populated other continents and islands.

Knowledge of early human migrations, a major topic of archeology, has been achieved by the study of human fossils, occasionally by stone-age artifacts and more recently has been assisted by archaeogenetics. Cultural and ethnic migrations are estimated by combining archaeogenetics and comparative linguistics.

A megaregion is a large network of metropolitan regions that share several or all of the following:
•Environmental systems and topography
•Infrastructure systems
•Economic linkages
•Settlement and land use patterns
•Culture and history

Megaregions of the United States are clustered networks of American cities, the population of which currently ranges or is projected to range from about 57 to 63 million by the year 2025.
-----
America 2050, a project of the Regional Plan Association, lists 11 megaregions in the United States, Canada and Mexico. Megapolitan areas were explored in a July 2005 report by Robert E. Lang and Dawn Dhavale of the Metropolitan Institute at Virginia Tech. A later 2007 article by Lang and Nelson uses 20 megapolitan areas grouped into 10 megaregions. The concept is based on the original megalopolis model

German Eastern Settlements In Middle Ages

Ostsiedlung in English called the German eastward expansion, was the medieval eastward migration and settlement of Germanic-speaking peoples from the Holy Roman Empire, especially its southern and western portions, into less-populated regions of Central Europe, parts of west Eastern Europe, and the Baltics. The affected area roughly stretched from Estonia in the north all the way to Slovenia in the south and extended into Transylvania, modern day Romania in the east. In part, Ostsiedlung followed the territorial expansion of the Empire and the Teutonic Order.

According to Jedlicki (1950), in many cases the term "German colonization" does not refer to an actual migration of Germans, but rather to the internal migration of native populations (Poles, Hungarians, etc.) from the countryside to the cities, which then adopted laws modeled on those of the German towns of Magdeburg and Lübeck. German historians of the nineteenth and twentieth centuries often exaggerated the importance of the adoption of Salic law and settlement in Central and Eastern Europe for political reasons. While the phenomenon did increase the economic wellbeing of destination countries, at least some of them, like medieval Poland, were already quite developed economically and politically in their own right, and the local Slavicpopulation was already far more strongly established in its towns than previously believed: the whole process took part in territories where stable Slavic organisational structures already existed.

Nationalities of the German Alliance

Fine large format map, illustrating the various nationalities of the regions which had been conquered by Germany during World War I, and which would require "reorganization" under the Treaty of Peace.

The map title includes the following quote from the allies response to Wilson's note of December 19, 1916.

The civilised world knows that the aims of the Allies include --- the reorganization of Europe, guaranteed by a stable settlement, based alike upon the principle of nationalities and on the right which all peoples, whether small or great, have to the enjoyment of full security and free economic development.

The map illustrates the cultural disbursement of a number of ethnic groups impacted by the war, including Lithuanians, Sorabians, Jewish Colonies in Palestine, Nestorians, Armenians, Kurds, Turks, Lazes and a broad disbursement of Greeks, with a note that the figures for the Ottoman Empire are "conjectural." Another interesting note is the areas labeledd as "Expropriations of the German Ansiedelungs Commission," which was created in 1886 to allow Prussian Settlers (Colonists) to expropriate lands in the lands which formerly belonged to Poland, even if this required taking the lands from the locals without their consent.

Crade Rate of Total Population Change, 2015

Where do people migrate to in the EU and EU candidates
During the worst years of the European debt crisis, the media remembered the acronym PIGS and started using it again. Created in the early 1990s to talk about the (bad) economies of Portugal, Italy, Greece, and Spain, it fit perfectly the new economic crisis — as the Wikipedia puts it, those were the countries “unable to refinance their government debt or to bail out over-indebted banks on their own.” (The “i” meant here more Ireland than Italy, though.) Things look a bit brighter now than in, say, 2008 (a friend told me back then we [Spain] would need at least 10 years to recover and I thought he was exaggerating — turns out his degree in Economics was more useful than my degree in Journalism to predict the economic future), but Southern Europe is still a difficult place to find a job. Migration trends within the EU reflect this situation: people migrate from the south to richer areas in Central and Northern Europe; from rural areas to the city. This is what Eurostat’s latest yearbook says, as illustrated on this map — orange means less population, blue means more people.
