Meet us Sunday, August 20th, 1-3pm in front of the CAPITOL STEPS for a good ol' fashioned Peace Rally. [We will properly accomadate for anyone who physically needs it. There is a driveway on either side of the Capitol to avoid the stairs, and we will make room right in front of the rally for those who will need to sit.] Let's exercise our right to voice our concerns of the violence that currently plagues us and the pending threat of nuclear war. Let's open the conversation of how we can healthily prepare ourselves and how we can better direct our resistance to create the change we dream of. Rallying and marching isn't enough. We must commit to lifestyle changes in order to break down the very system that oppresses us.
Colorado has made international news for our consistently prominent and peaceful resistance since our first march after Trump took office. Now, it's time to plan how we can protect ourselves and each other from the threats in our society and future. Stand united as a Community for Unity against war in North Korea, the use of nuclear weapons, and racial violence and terrorism on our own soil.
We refuse to allow our military personnel to be used as fodder for a dangerously deranged president’s dream of war. We refuse to allow the use of nuclear weapons. We refuse to allow North Korean military and citizens to be killed. We refuse to allow our own people to be beaten and killed while police stand by and watch. We refuse to allow more terrorist attacks like the one in Charlottesville.
Fighting hate with hate brings war. And war only brings a temporary solution to a much bigger problem. The current administration lacks the experience, intelligence, education, common sense, compassion, and humanity to make any decisions with the potential to have permanent devastating impact upon every living being around the world including our planet. #thingstodoindenver#denveractivist#denvercommunity#denvercolorado#denver#denverevents#303#5280#denverlowdown#denverlife

Join us Monday, August 7th, 2017 at 6:00 pm at the GEO Immigrant Detention Center at 3130 Oakland St, Aurora, CO 80010!
Our member Isidro Quintana will share action steps and information from the inside and from the conference. Mr. Quintana is an elder at his church, a father and grandfather, who was recently freed from detention and just returned from a Detention Watch Network training in Chicago.
Currently our local detention center detains many Hatians, Africans and south east Asians asylum seekers whose only view of the US has been through bars, many of them far past the 180 days they are allowed to be held.
This August your congresspeople are home on recess. We'll be meeting with them to discuss the use of our tax dollars in locking asylum seekers and our nieghbors away for profit and increasing surveillance and border patrol in border communities.
Join us to learn more about their struggle and what you can do!
Use this link to update your address so we can connect you to YOUR congressperson! https://www.afsc.org/ea/coloradans-immigrant-rights?submit=Subscribe
If you would like to be a part of this event, as a volunteer or part of the program, please contact Jordan Garcia at email@example.com
Join Shift, Tesla, SolarCity, and Colorado Foundation for Water Education for a happy hour in the Main Lobby of Shift Bannock. We'll learn how we as individuals can better the planet, becoming stewards of environmental change over some wine & hors d'oeuvres.
We'll also have a few Tesla vehicles on-site. Hop in with a Tesla rep and take a spin. #denver#thingstodoindenver#denveractivist#sustainability#303#denverlowdown
The US has the largest prison population in the world, and it's one of the world's leaders in numbers of people killed and injured by law enforcement yearly. We justify both of these situations by invoking notions of safety and justice. Our nation's answer for too many problems has been to expand the construction and population of prisons and jails that act as cages to warehouse people who've allegedly committed crimes while simultaneously deploying a heavily armed police force that continues to hurt and kill black, brown, and poor people at higher rates than any other group in our communities. These problematic ways we attempt to achieve public health and safety aren't a problem just in our country - it's a problem for societies around the world. We aren't getting safer, our qualities of life and health are not improving, and we don't have justice.
But it doesn't have to be like this. We don't have to keep sacrificing safety and justice for all to achieve a false sense of security for a few. There are other ways to create a safe and just world without the same ugly outcomes - violence, racism, broken communities - that we're used to. And it's time we started talking about them.
Join the Denver Justice Project and several partner organizations for a community forum on solutions: alternative methods for achieving justice, building public health and safety, and revitalizing our communities in ways that go beyond the over-reliance on cops, courts, and cages. We will hear from a panel of distinguished thinkers and practitioners about what these alternatives can and do look like and have conversations with our neighbors about how these ideas can begin to transform the ways we seek safer, and more just communities.
Save the date for this important event - Sunday, July 16th from 2-4:30pm. #denvercolorado#denver#denverlowdown#denverlife#denverlocal#denveractivist#denvercommunity#303community
Put on your favorite blue shirt and join the Denver Streets Partnership in showing your support for funding walking and biking in Denver!
The 2017 GO Bond that City Council will refer to voters this fall is an important opportunity to jumpstart the buildout of sidewalk and bicycle networks citywide. However, in the latest round of revisions to the GO Bond package, funds for these projects were cut by nearly 40%! We need Denver residents to let City Council know EVERY neighborhood deserves walkability, bikeability, and liveability.
July 10 is the monthly general public comment session for City Council. While only a few people will get the opportunity to speak, we want to pack the hall with biking and walking supporters, all wearing blue shirts.
Councilwoman Mary Beth Susman, a big supporter of multimodal transportation, will host us in her office (Room 484 in the City and County Building) at 4 pm for snacks and socializing, and then we'll all head down to Council Chambers at 5 pm to send our message - let's connect Denver's neighborhoods for biking and walking! #denverevents#denver#denverlowdown#denvercolorado#denverwalk#walkdenver#denverbikelife#denverbikeshops#denveractivist#303#bikedenver
On Sunday, July 9 at 2:00 p.m. we will rally for health care. Our Senators return to Washington on July 10 to renew the debate on repealing the Affordable Care Act and defunding Medicaid. The last proposal we saw from the Senate would result in twenty-two million Americans losing coverage. That is unacceptable. We will rally to tell them to go back to Washington to do the right thing and protect health care for Coloradans.
11:00am--12:30pm - Speeches (including speeches from Jeanette Vizguerra and Tay Anderson!)
12:30pm - March! We will march towards the State Capitol, and walk around it 3 times, making sure to completely encircle it (we're looking for someone with a drone who will take a photo). The final time we circle the Capitol, we will recite a quote from the Declaration of Independence, which will be provided at the march. "But when a long train of abuses and usurpations, pursuing invariably the same Object evinces a design to reduce them under absolute Despotism, it is their right, it is their duty, to throw off such Government, and to provide new Guards for their future security." IMPORTANT: THIS IS ABSOLUTELY, 100%, A NON-VIOLENT EVENT. THERE MAY BE COUNTER-PROTESTORS BUT DO *NOT* ENGAGE!! The Imeachment March-Denver is about more than just impeaching Trump. It's about bringing communities together to stand in solidarity with one another to remove the systematic structures in our government that elected a President who not only doesn't represent us, but actively works against our very livelihoods. #denver#denvercolorado#denverpolitics#denverlowdown#denveractivist#303#5280
