Still in Portugal getting lots of (safe) sun and fun. Before leaving, I gave my favorite @drjanellevega a @skinceuticals pigment peel for a quick glow. After the peel we apply @alastinskincare nectar to help the skin heal and rejuvenate. You usually need a series of these for more difficult pigment like #melasma and don't need to peel to get a result. Happy Thursday and cheers 🇵🇹🍷!
And the beauty of today is that it's #Friday . Hands up if you're feeling fabulous 🙌⠀

So this is my survival pack for over the next few months. I am starting an aggressive treatment for acne and it's about bloody time, as well as this I'm buying cetaphil, vaseline and some First Aid Beauty moisturisers. #roaccutane#acne

Are you a frequent hair washer?? Myth #4 : Frequent hair washing causes hair loss! There is actually no research that says washing hair causes hair loss! Because women's hair is usually more visible, it may be more apparent in the shower or when towel drying leading to this false assumption!

Day 17 of #CultBeautySkinCareChallenge :: Skinvestment :: I invest in my skin through my skincare routines and purchases, diet and regular visits to my #dermatologist and #aesthetician . But if I were to pick one to highlight as the biggest financial investment, I would probably go with my #dermapen#microneedling and #microneedlingwithprp appointments. Those are line items on the credit card statements that prompt the side-eye and long-suffering sigh from my husband, anyway.
I started with a series of 4 dermapen appointments 4 weeks apart, with the first using #plateletrichplasma plasma. The results were a bit delayed and it took about 3 months before I really started seeing results. But after the fourth treatment, I started getting addicted to the glow. Now, I go for "maintenance" appointments every 3 months with alternating #hydrafacial and traditional facials on the off months.
Disclaimer: I have no way of calculating collagen production from my dermapen appointments, if the use of prp has made any significant difference versus traditional dermapen needling or if my smooth, healthy, glowing skin is solely from my home care routines, but something with my formula is working and I'm not going to mess with it. Not until my husband starts really grumbling about the 4-figure Amex charges, anyway.

Let's talk about charcoal. Activated charcoal for medical use has been around for decades, but recently it seems to be everywhere in the skin care world. The idea behind its skin benefits is its ability to bind to oil and dirt on skin and in pores and draw them out to be easily rinsed away, resulting in smoother skin with cleaner (and therefore smaller) pores. Here are the do's and dont's of incorporating charcoal into your skin care regimen:
- Do use a charcoal mask 1-2 times a week to help clear out pores. - Do try a DIY charcoal mask- they are easy and economical to make. The simplest mask can be made using a couple of capsules of activated charcoal (available at health food stores and online) mixed with a few teaspoons of warm water. Apply to face and leave on 15 minutes or until dry, then rinse with warm water. - Do follow the mask with a light moisturizer
- Don't overdo it: using charcoal masks on a daily basis can result in overly dry skin. - Don't use charcoal all over your face if you have very dry skin at baseline. If you have combination skin with an oilier T-zone, concentrate the charcoal on that area. - This sounds like a given, but DON'T use the charcoal you use to barbecue. This is very different from activated charcoal, which has been processed in such a way that increases its porosity so it can absorb hundreds of times it's weight in impurities.

Most of you wont know this about me. I used to go to all measures to hide it. The clothes I bought, the activities I would or wouldn't do, even the bags I would carry...was all down to my BIG MASSIVE SECRET. This went on for 12 whole months.
There were many days I would hide away crying feeling embarrassed and ashamed....I started to hate myself...some days I couldn't even bare to look at myself in the mirror. I eventually learnt to hide it well, I knew every trick!
3 years ago I was diagnosed with severe acne on my back. I was transferred to a dermatologist, they had me try various medications...6 to be exact before I was put on a very serious (last resort) treatment called Roacutanne, each month I would go to the hospital to be examined, have my bloods taken and complete a pregnancy test (it was part of procedure as it was very damaging medication for babies)...the side effects of the drug were very serious...I was exhausted and the acne and treatment was affecting me mentally...it became such a huge part of my life.
It was painful, everyday things became a struggle...things you just wouldn't even think about. I had to wear strapless bras (the straps would just hurt me), I could no longer carry a handbag on my shoulder or wear white shirts in the risk of my acne bleeding and showing through my top and anything that hung down when I leant over was just out of the question...I didn't want anyone to see the secret beneath my clothes. The idea of dating and someone seeing my naked back would just make me feel sick. I would get home most nights and cry in the bath wondering when this would all stop. On the outside I looked so confident, happy and ALIVE...inside I was wondering when this nightmare would end...IF it would end.
Today after our lunch on the beach, I asked Lisa to come up to the rocks and take a photo of me, I wanted to write a story about freedom and how grateful I am for my clients, an image in this setting fitted perfectly.
We headed up to the rocks and as I sat down gazing out over the ocean, I felt the warmth of the sun hug me tightly, I lifted my arm up to the top of my neck, just behind my right ear and...it hit me. [FULL POST ON FB]
