As well as all the modern art and photography, Miami hosted Design Miami next door to Art Basel, which I got to see on Sunday and absolutely loved!
What I enjoy about design is that regardless of your knowledge (I have none), a personal aesthetic of it is subconsciously shaped by everything you’ve been exposed to in life, from stark, brutalist high rises to chromed hotel lamps. So you can appreciate design with your feelings and know what is fun to look at and what you would want to live with every day. The price unfortunately cannot be dictated like that! I’ve discovered I have an insatiable appetite for Brazilian, Japanese, English and Danish woodwork, especially anything carved from one piece, and even the book I liked at the show (Brazilian Modern Design) was $180 so I didn’t enquire about the chairs in it. 🤣
Here are a few of the wondrous, and wondrously weird, things I saw. 😊🚪
WE LOVE: @houseoftoday, a nonprofit organisation championing Lebanon’s design scene across the globe. Discovered at @designmiami and featuring set design from @ramidalle, plus new work from @sayargaribeh and @khaledelmays.
