Back on American soil after an amazing #TeamAfrica17 ministry trip to #SouthAfrica !So many memories and stories to share and I miss the smiles of the African people already. These kids from #Diepsloot Combined School have the hand of God on their shoulder, the Spirit in their hearts and aspirations towards a drop mike moment in their future! It was though, but I guess necessary... A visit to one of the settlements (#Diepsloot ) by #Johannesburg ... I especially appreciated the stop we made to the local "private" medical center. It was exceptionally run and for a very good cause. It was a great example of that lives can be made better in an economical way, by being smart!
I often speak of my gratitude for being able to witness so many beautiful places on this earth. This (photo of a) photograph of Diepsloot, South Africa stopped me in my tracks. It was a soul searing reminder just how fortunate I am. May I never take anything for granted. Enlarge it and take a closer look. This photo, taken in August of 2009, is part of the Art/Afrique, Le Nouvelle Atelier Exhibition currently showing at the Louis Vuitton Foundation in Paris. Introducing the OLICO YOUTH Maths Winter School - here's Babalp showing off his knowledge of angles while playing musical statues.
The annual Maths Winter School is OLICO's biggest event. We host our 100+ Grade 7-10 learners, along with 50 bright volunteers to dig deep into maths over one intensive week in the winter holiday.
Here's the power of volunteering!
The buzz of the township. There are these. 7seater Toyota something and they guy charges roughly R7($0.5) to take people around the township. The spares shop, the Spaza, the lady selling groundnuts or eggs. Life is happening.
ASSIST PROJECT SUNSHINE: 🌞 Currently there are roughly 130 000 people living in the Northern part of Johannesburg in the vibrant community Diepsloot. Unfortunately, there are high crime rates partly due to unemployment and a shortage of street lights culminates in an environment that allows villains to flourish. This severely affects the larger community and many children growing up in the area. Project Sunshine is an initiative coordinated by Green Peace South Africa and the Philile foundation which aims to raise enough money to purchase 8 solar powered street lights to aid the community. With your support we hope to raise R100 000 (currently sitting on R31, 681). With only 17 days left, your donation will assist in bringing sustainable energy to off-grid communities. Let's light up the streets for the future generations! For the next month R50 off all purchases will go to PROJECT SUNSHINE. Learn more in the link below.
