❓What's the 80/20 rule? Well, it's pretty self-explanatory. The idea is to consume 80% whole foods in your daily diet and leave the remaining 20% of your calorie intake for some foods that may not be nearly as healthy, but help you stay consistent in reaching your physique and health goals.

🚫 Because there is no such thing as the "perfect diet," giving yourself permission to incorporate some of your favorite foods will help you stay consistent without feeling deprived.

🍎 A big part of the reason the traditional diet fails is because it feels too restrictive. When we feel deprived of our favorite foods, it's not going to be a sustainable process. If you want to eat healthy forever, it has to feel easy and effortless.

👋🏼 Today, let's talk the importance of nutrition and the vital role it plays in fat loss.

✌🏼When it comes to fat loss, you have to be in a calorie deficit. There are basically three ways to go about doing this: eat fewer calories than your body needs (maintenance), burn more calories than your body needs through exercise, OR a combination of the two.

🙌🏼 For optimal results, I'd suggest a combination of the two with an emphasis on strength training.
.
⬆️ When creating a fat loss deficit, the first step is determining your maintenance calorie intake (bodyweight in pounds x 15), then reducing that number by approximately 20%.
.
😃From there, you use the calorie total to determine how many calories will be used with the foods displayed above; protein being the most important.
.
🚫 Please note: when it comes to carbs and fats, it really does boil down to personal preference and how your body responds. For some, they'll have better luck with a low carb diet. For others, they may adhere better to a high carb. In the end, it doesn't really matter as long as you stay within your predetermined calorie deficit.

Out to the theatre tonight and off for a meal with family beforehand 🙈 so it's going to be hard this evening but I intend to make the best choices I can.  Last night I made breaded panko chicken (25g panko crumbs 4.5syns), mayflower curry sauce (28g 4syns) a few home made wedges and a little soy and Chinese spice fried rice with a side of green beans. perfect Friday night meal 😝

🤖I think this calorie comparison sums up exactly what I have been talking about for years. In a world that has gone #organic, #vegan and “health” mad in recent times, clever marketers have latched onto that and run rampant with products that fit that scene.

🦋I am 100% for eating a diet high in good quality whole foods that contain plenty of in season fresh fruits and vegetables and lean proteins. What makes my blood boil though is companies that prey on your insecurities and fears and make products that are absolutely ridiculous!

🙈Taking a product like Kale, that is high in fibre and low in calories and then frying it in oil is a prime example. Companies then put it in a green packet with trigger words like gluten free and organic on the front while also telling you it is the “heathy” alternative to chips. In my opinion this as bad as the cigarette companies telling you they don’t cause cancer.

☂️As I always say, if you enjoy this kind of product and can make it fit into your daily calories, go for it. However, don’t believe for one second that they are a “better” or “healthier” alternative to the dorito packet.

The exact reason is unknown, but it’s speculated that it has to do with protein having a higher thermic effect (TEF) than carbs and fat, simply meaning your body burns more calories digesting protein than it does those other macronutrients, thus boosting the metabolism.

So yeah, you can’t be bothered with cutting down your amount of food? You know, doing something that shows that you give a semblance of a solitary fuck? Then at least double your protein.

❓What's the 80/20 rule? Well, it's pretty self-explanatory. The idea is to consume 80% whole foods in your daily diet and leave the remaining 20% of your calorie intake for some foods that may not be nearly as healthy, but help you stay consistent in reaching your physique and health goals.

🚫 Because there is no such thing as the "perfect diet," giving yourself permission to incorporate some of your favorite foods will help you stay consistent without feeling deprived.

🍎 A big part of the reason the traditional diet fails is because it feels too restrictive. When we feel deprived of our favorite foods, it's not going to be a sustainable process. If you want to eat healthy forever, it has to feel easy and effortless.

🤖Shout out has to go to @bjwdavidson for asking this question. He, like many of you, have many commitments throughout your week and so he was wondering if timing of workouts had an effect on muscle gain. My answer below can be applied to both muscle gain and fat loss.

🤼‍♀️There is some research that has been conducted around timing of exercise, and which variation will yield the best results for fat loss and muscle gain. However, it is limited and still inconclusive.

🚴🏼Some research suggest that doing exercise while fasted will yield faster and more effective fat loss, however, there is also research to suggest this is not the case and that timing of exercise makes little to no difference at all to your overall fat loss.

🤾🏼‍♂️My suggestion would be, as I have said in previous posts, stop worrying about the minor details and just start moving. Find something you enjoy, do it at whatever time of the day suits your routine and just go and do it.

🌞If your an early riser and your day is more productive when you have started with exercise, then hit the pavement or gym in the morning.

🌜If you are someone that likes to de-stress and unwind after a busy day at work by going for a run or pumping out some weights, then leave it until the end of the day.

☘️Keep your calories in check, eat adequate protein and just get moving and doing something. But most import of all be consistent, week to week, month to month and year to year and you will reach your goals.

🦄If It Fits Your Macros or IIFYM, has been a popular trend amongst fitness social media influencers in recent times. Due in part to jacked dudes and shredded girls posting pictures of them supposedly eating “junk” food all the time while staying incredibly lean and athletic.

🐶The thought process behind IIFYM is that you have a set amount of macros (Protein, Carbs and Fats) that you are allowed each day. You then eat whatever you like as long as you hit those macros.

🙋🏻‍♂️The reality is, that most, if not all of the fitness influencers you see have a few things in their favour that they conveniently leave out.  Most will be naturally gifted with amazing genetics that sets them up with a predisposition to being lean, most will be in the gym 5-6 times a week doing a tonne of strength work and finally and most importantly, they all eat fresh and whole foods most of the time and just post the “bad” foods.

☘️IIFYM can be an incredibly powerful tool to help you understand what is in your food and how many calories certain foods and meals have. With knowledge comes power and with that you will begin to learn how you can include your favourite foods into your diet and still continue to see weight loss week in and week out.

🍏The age old 80/20 rule is still one I live by and tell my clients to live by to this day. Eat a diet that is predominantly made up of fresh and whole foods and should you have a few calories left over at the end of the day, then enjoy a bowl of ice cream, chocolate bar or whatever your vice is.

🔥DIET REVIEW - IIFYM🔥 - ⛄️Thank you @exphys_kitty for asking me to review IIFYM. - 🦄If It Fits Your Macros or IIFYM, has been a popular trend amongst fitness social media influencers in recent times. Due in part to jacked dudes and shredded girls posting pictures of them supposedly eating “junk” food all the time while staying incredibly lean and athletic. - 🐶The thought process behind IIFYM is that you have a set amount of macros (Protein, Carbs and Fats) that you are allowed each day. You then eat whatever you like as long as you hit those macros. - 🙋🏻‍♂️The reality is, that most, if not all of the fitness influencers you see have a few things in their favour that they conveniently leave out. Most will be naturally gifted with amazing genetics that sets them up with a predisposition to being lean, most will be in the gym 5-6 times a week doing a tonne of strength work and finally and most importantly, they all eat fresh and whole foods most of the time and just post the “bad” foods. - ☘️IIFYM can be an incredibly powerful tool to help you understand what is in your food and how many calories certain foods and meals have. With knowledge comes power and with that you will begin to learn how you can include your favourite foods into your diet and still continue to see weight loss week in and week out. - ☂️Don’t fall for the tricks that many of these big fitness accounts and individuals are using to sell you the idea that fat loss is easy. I can almost guarantee they are selling a product or program and it is just a marketing tool to take your money. - 🍏The age old 80/20 rule is still one I live by and tell my clients to live by to this day. When you first begin a weight loss journey, especially if you have a lot of weight to drop, it can seem daunting and almost impossible! Don't give up at the first hurdle though. You CAN drop the weight! You CAN become healthier and you CAN get your life back! You just need to DECIDE, BELIEVE and COMMIT! It's by no means an easy journey to embark on, it's a rollercoaster of emotions, sometimes you will want to go back to old ways and question why you are doing it. You will have days where you still don't like what you see in the mirror, and where you'll still see yourself bigger because that's what you've got used to. But stick with it because the end results are SOOO worth it!
