The first episode of this brilliant series on Netflix, Cooked, talks about the element of fire, water, air and earth and how these basics got added gradually and altered cooking to the highly nuanced forms we have today.
Assuming, and maybe ignorantly (sorry!), the Bedouin style of cooking forms base for most Arabic and middle eastern cuisine. It was interesting to see the meat getting cooked in metal container, in a hole dug into the earth and from heat from coal fires.
Here, Zarb or Bedouin barbecue cooked and being set for dinner.
The wadi is full of Bedouin style camps. When we visited thankfully! there were such few people that everyone congregated at our camp for dinner. It was nice. The feel of the food was great, the actual food, not so much. :( Wadi Rum, August, 2017
Just a quick update to let you all know I am alive and well in Bali 😊 I had hoped to post a lot more about my trip along the way, but unfortunately my phone was stolen on day 2, making that a lot more difficult. But, alas, life goes on and I've had a great time thus far on my trip! Planning an upcoming trip to Bali? Send me a DM and I'd be happy to offer some recommendations!
