Why I like it: This was the movie that started it all. After seeing this movie for the frost time in theatres I knew from that day on that o wanted to be a Disney animator. It gave me my dream. A dream that gave me a reason to live when I was depressed and a reason to smile and work hard each and every single day.
The Good Stuff: The animation is stellar. This is easily one of Disney's most gorgeous looking films. They used the CGI to their advantage and ran away with it. The characters are all so fluid and beautiful and their development was just as perfect. We don't even have to discuss the music.
The Flaws: One word: hype. This movie as spectacular as it was, did not deserve the amount of attention it got. But since then, this movie has harbors a lot of criticism from people simply being sick of it. I don't think it deserves that either. But it does make me mad to see how every single Disney movie is now compared to Frozen.
TANGLED. Released 2010. Tangled is only the 3rd movie I ever saw in a movie theater, so I guess you could say it has a special place in my heart. That is to say, it's purely sentimental. Because my outlook on this film otherwise is just fine. It follows Rapunzel (Mandy Moore) locked away in her tower by the evil Gothel (Donna Murphy). Flynn Rider (Zachary Levi) stumbles upon it. Flynn and Rapunzel journey across the land so Rapunzel can see the Festival of Lights, they fall in love, drama happens with Gothel, they get a happy ending. This is a pretty innocent movie, but it's done very well. All the voice performances are very good, the animation is vibrant and engaging, and the songs are all very delightful. I should love this movie, but instead, I just find it okay. I don't have a specific reason, because it's well paced in terms of story, even if it does follow familiar story beats and have lots of the Disney tropes. The "comic relief" characters never get annoying, and all the songs are catchy and it doesn't have a "Let it Go" type song in terms of popularity. I should love it, but it's just an okay piece of Disney, which, of course, isn't bad. Totally recommended for families, it's still better than everything in Blue Sky's entire film catalog. Overall Score: 7.5/10
