Are you ready for the total solar eclipse today? Between finding the perfect viewing location and tracking the sun's path, don't forget to protect your eyes!
Staring directly at the sun, even when it's slightly covered during an eclipse, exposes your eyes to dangerous levels of UVA and UVB radiation (the same harmful rays that cause sunburn). The surface of your eye acts like a magnifying glass that concentrates light from the world around you onto the inner surface of your eye (retina). As light travels through, your eye surface also absorbs most of the sun's radiation.
When you stare directly at the sun, the intensity of light causes more UV rays to travel through the eye and focus on the retina. Unfit to handle this influx of radiation, the retina releases toxic chemicals that damage retina cells.
These chemicals cause damage and scarring to the retina, and can lead to reduced vision or short-term blindness

I found the 4 student cards that made up not only each phase of my education, but accurately documents each of my awkward post-puberty life stages:
1. Awkward teen artsy kid: owned too many cardigans with holes in sleeves, owned a Polaroid camera that I took to a broken social scene concert. Directed theatre and read a lot of Vonnegut.
2. Hipster political undergrad: owned thigh high neon pink socks, had a series of bad short haircuts. Went to a lot of protests and electro-indie concerts.
3. Snarky feminist MA student: wore a lot of mini skirts and knitted headwear. Embraced feminism and Foucault.
4. PhD student: TBD
I've been asked by SO MANY people about my road to CRNA school, application process, and life as a CRNA student. The best way to answer those questions is to take you along on the journey with me! Since today was day 1 of classes I figured I might as well start today... I've created this instagram account dedicated to life in the day of a SRNA! Side note: I started classes early which is why it says Spring 2018 but I am starting now #SRNA#CRNA#nolife#dnp#threeandahalfyears#doctorate#anesthesia#co2020#firstdayofschool#firstsemester
Tomorrow we begin a crazy adventure: living in two cities, as I pursue my DMA. We have so much fun together, always have, always will, this week especially as we set up the new condo. We are totally equipped and ready to rock this adventure! #becomingdrb#colorcodedcalendar#lotsofcommunication
Dr., sister, daughter, wife, aunt, best friend... the list goes on, there are so many words I could use to describe you... but to me you will always be my hero, my big sissy. Proud of you, I love you @__eunice__h._ enjoy your day, happy birthday! ❤️ #EducatedLatina#doctorate#hero
"LÄKARE = Doctor in Swedish"
I wear this doctor-label everyday not knowing exactly what it means.
You all know, I spent my entire life trying to become a doctor..... now... when I earned this title I don't really feel the meaning behind it.
What is a doctor? Am I really a doctor? Or was I meant to become something else?? Sometimes, I doubt myself and my abilities as a doctor. But every time I do that things happen proving me totally wrong. Like yesterday night!! Our medical team stood face to face with the angel of death. At the end we lost the fight, death took a precious soul from us. Everyone involved in the case felt agitated and sad but strangely I was the most calm among them all. I talked to the nurses, emotionally supported them. Asked my resident to allow me to help, took care of the relatives. Spent the night delivering the death news. Arranged a meeting between the family and the deceased body. And some other "doctor-thingy" which I'm not allowed to tell officially.
At the end of the nightshift the entire team warmly thanked me for my work. They told me "You've shown a strength which is very unusual for being such a young doctor".... Their encouraging words made me feel proud of myself! I'm slowly starting to understand the real meaning of being a doctor. It's all about CARING!! I don't need to overdo it, it's there within me.... a big heart caring for people around me, wether they're patients, relatives, nurses or other doctors. We can't overcome difficulties alone, but together we're strong. Together we can make it. ✒️Doctor EE

What do you want to know about money? On this beautiful and sunny day in Toronto, I just recorded my newest YouTube video. Click link in bio to access the video and subscribe to the channel :) It's about $. Money. Finance. Why is finance important? Especially for graduate students in science, who may think money is evil, unethical, etc.. I used to think these things. Only recently (4 years after finishing grad school), did I realize the value of money and what money actually is. Actually, I am still learning about money, it's energy, and understanding finance concepts more and more everyday. What do you want to know about money?
