Entropy in action: over at my "doll-centric" account, the more often I post, the more followers I lose. Additionally, my occasional "book posts" at the doll account attract as many ❤️s from #bookstagrammers as they do from #dollstagrammers . And, because of Funkopop-mania, I'm seeing nearly as many doll photos on #bookstagram as I do on #dollstagram . My world view is crumbling!
But I digress.
Entropy: A New World View by Jeremy Rifkin, 1980. One of the more interesting books I've read. I usually reread it every few years. It's probably time to do so again.
Which non-fiction books do you like to periodically reread?
Alternate query: how long until the Funkopop frenzy fades away like Beanie Babies?
Unfortunately, Maudlynne is not directly acquainted with Edward Douglas Fawcett, brother of Amazon explorer Col. Percy Fawcett, instrumental figure in the foundation of the Theosophical movement, and author of three science fiction themed novels in the 1890s, so she can not directly refer to Fawcett as one of #OurAuthorFriends . However, having, under one of her several pseudonyms, transcribed into eBook format Fawcett's 1895 novel, "The Secret of the Desert; or, How We Crossed Arabia in the 'Antelope'" and having compiled supplemental biographical information on Fawcett and on illustrator Arthur Twidle, she feels that she is as well acquainted with this sadly neglected literary figure from another era as anyone, except perhaps some of the oldest members of the Kevral Chess Club of Torquay, England, who may still have living memory of their fellow member Fawcett, who passed away in 1960.
The eBook version of Maudlynne's transcription (attributed to the pseudonymous D. P. Beache) of this rousing adventure novel – which, having been written in the 1890s, is anything but rousing by today's standards, unless painstakingly detailed descriptions of 19th century Arabian coffee customs are your idea of riveting entertainment – is currently available on the Amazon Kindle site.
