I wasn't quite sure how Girls On The Run would go for this particular girl as she can sometimes shy away and not participate in situations from time to time. She has given her best each day so far. She set a lap goal of 5 today - and ended up pounding out 6 laps instead! I think what I loved the most was how proud she was of herself! She can dream it, she can do it.
You might be cool, but are you "hanging from a car grip handle, rockin' an extra chromosome, eatin' a homemade chicken taquito in the parking lot of your big bros football practice" cool?! 😎 #EmmettSlade is 😜 #extrachromosomesareextracool
This girl!! She is brave and she is strong and that can be a great but scary combination. She realized she can pull up on just about anything this week. Now she is pulling up on everything from furniture to the walls. She gets up great but is not graceful at getting back down, I've included a video as evidence. So far today she fallen multiple times and has one bruise on her forehead. She's tough and usually just gets back up and tries again. She's self motivated and I'm so thankful for that! #morealikethandifferent#dontlimitme#theluckyfew#pullingup#babyproofing
I had the pleasure of meeting this awesome young man, Christian, while he was volunteering at a distribution center for Harvey victims. Christian and his mother, Renee, have been volunteering at the center for many days to help those in need.
Renee says Christian wakes up everyday asking who they can help today. They are both truly inspiring. Turns out Renee and Kim are FB friends and have been connected because of our two loving boys.
Today is Christian's 24th birthday! A very Happy Birthday to my new friend! #servantsheart#lovedownsyndrome#dontlimitme#sidebyside#hurricaneharvey

With the Emmys coming up this Sunday, I had an opp to speak with a few of the stars of Born This Way. As on TV, they spoke their minds and hearts, sharing thoughts on raising children with Down syndrome and bullying—along with a few choice words for our president.
The series, which follows the lives of a group of young adults with Down syndrome living in Southern California, has raised awareness and busted stereotypes about having a disability, and helped people see why inclusion should be the rule, not the exception. It's racked up six Emmy nominations, including one for Outstanding Unstructured Reality Program (which it won last year).
The cast continues to score individual successes. Sean McElwee has started his own clothing line, Seanese. Rachel Osterbach is pursuing her dreams as an actress. John Tucker, an aspiring rapper/musician, is working on several original songs and will be collaborating with DSON, a rapper. The three also do speaking engagements, both in the U.S. and worldwide.
Here they are, not holding back... (continued in article link)
