Didn't really know what to expect going into it, but after the first round of tests with the new @aamicrophones MT8016 2 channel mic preamp... it's really performing extremely well! I've tested it on vocals and acoustic guitar so far (using a mic splitter), and to my ears (and the ears of 2 other producers and engineers I sent blind test files to), it was the preferred preamp on a Martin D-28... even over a preamp costing twice as much as the MT8016! It has a beautiful, shimmery top end that adds a sense of air and life to the guitar, with a subtle veil of transformer saturation warming things up and adding some really musically pleasing harmonics... all the while staying ultra articulate, fast, and detailed. The clarity and great transient response is likely due to the high end dual op-amps used... keeping that Trident 80 Series feel while making it even more detailed... while the transformers keep things from getting harsh by giving you some warmth and fullness. The male vocals (and D-28) recorded were kindly provided by @ianmunsick who was in the studio already filming his latest Minute Monday video, and though his voice is on the brighter side and can cut through the track a little too much if the microphone and preamp are too bright, the MT8016 (even with that air on top) sounded fantastic. I personally picked the more expensive, darker, and smoother preamp by just a hair, but upon sending out the blind files to 2 engineers / producers who both prefer darker and more neutral recordings like I do.... both actually picked the MT8016! Between Dave Thomas, Malcom Toft, and Tom Graefe... over 90 years of experience went into building this preamp.
