Ulrich was born on December 26, 1963 in Gentofte, Denmark. Growing up he had two major influences in his life: drumming and tennis. Ulrich’s father was a national tennis figure in Denmark, but also operated a small jazz club that was popular in the European jazz platform. Additionally, Ulrich’s grandfather was a legendary saxophonist. In 1973, Ulrich’s father got tickets for a Deep Purple’s concert at Copenhagen stadium. At that concert, Ulrich’s dreams of becoming a tennis player was then replaced by his dream to be a drummer in a big band. In 1976, his grandmother gave in to his constant plead for a drum set, and when he moved to California his father had figured out that music was what Lars wanted to do with his life instead of tennis. California exposed Lars to the culture of rock n’ roll and heavy metal, and when he returned from England after a trip he placed an advert in the local music newspaper. The advert was to search for someone who shared his interests in starting a band. Through the advert, he met James Hetfield and the two formed Metallica with the goal for playing metal music.

-Location: Diamond Bar, California
-Division: World Class
-Corps Director: Stuart Pompel
-Highest Placed Shows at Finals:
History: Pacific Crest was founded in 1993 to serve the youth in the eastern part of Los Angeles County. Marching only 33 members in its inaugural season, the corps grew in size and ability while maintaining a local California profile. The corps did not perform outside its home state until travelling to Texas for two shows in 2000. The corps journeyed to the Northwest in 2002, and it finally entered the national competition scene by attending its first DCI Championships at Orlando, Florida in 2003, where many drum corps fans unfamiliar with Pacific Crest were surprised as the corps reached the semifinal round. Although it now tours nationally each season, the corps has maintained a policy of spending approximately the first half of the season near home. While this has possibly prevented Pacific Crest from ascending beyond the second tier of the World Class corps, but it has helped to sustain the corps financially by limiting its travel expenses. Pacific Crest has advanced to DCI Semifinals in 2003, 2007–08, and 2011-15.

We can’t tell you enough how much we love art influenced by culture. Here’s @zildjiancompany artist @rhythmarun Arun Kumasi from India collaborating a dance piece called “Alarippu”. The ritual is accompanied by a verbal percussionist and a Drummer, and focuses on relaxing the body of the dancer. The goal is for the mind and body of the dancer to be prepared for the performance. In this version, elements of Dave Brubeck’s performance of “Take 5” have been incorporated. Enjoy!
#Q140 : What’s your opinion on this? Does your families culture do anything unique revolving around music?
Next Drum Set Drummer we have for our bios is John Bonham from @ledzeppelin! Enjoy!

John Henry Bonham was born in Redditch, Worcestershire, in the Midlands of England on May 31st, May 1948. According to his parents, Bonham’s interest started at the age of five, as he would transform handy objects like pots, pans, coffee tins, knives, and forks. At the age of ten, his mother bought him his first snare drum and at the age of fifteen he received his first drum kit.
A fellow drummer by the name of Garry Allcock lived near John, and it is believed that he had an influence on John’s drumming. A few years older than John, Garry and John would practice on a pad in a room and Garry would show him a few things. According to John’s brother Michael, John was heavily inspired by the film “The Benny Goodman Story”, what was a film he watched in 1956 that featured Gene Krupa, a talented drummer who was popular in the era of swing. John also heavily listened to music on the radio, and his favorite British groups were: Johnny Kidd & The Pirates and The Hollies and The Graham Bond Organization. Prior to Led Zeppelin, John Bonham was involved in many bands, going to the band that had the best offer. Some of the bands he was involved with before Led Zeppelin include The Blue Star Trio and Terry Webb and the Spiders.
