Last night's first Sea event in our #EDRILandAndSea series with @statesmantavern had to move inside--into a gorgeous 18th century house on Potter Pond! Perry, the OG of oyster farmers with @matunuckoysterbar, still gave a great tour and of course the food was beyond incredible. Thanks to everyone who joined in! Tap pic for all the names.
Legendbeer, Hanoi, Vietnam, October 2016:
I hate tourist "hot spots", if only because that usually means, especially abroad, "hey white people, here's some familiarity". If you pick through the cheap souvenir vendors and KFC franchises (which eagle-eyed readers will spot across the street), you can find a few gems. I think the reason Legendbeer has a reputation as being touristy, and make no mistake it is full of tourists, it isn't touristy. The motley collection of expats on the huge terrace are accounted for because the space is so distinctly unvietnamese; the terrace, the scale, it's not the kind of thing that attracts locals. For that experience, which I highly recommend, you have to sit in a tiny plastic chair on the sidewalk while all manner of pedestrian and motor traffic goes by. I love Legend Beer because you can see and take in so much of Hanoi as it teems before you. The lake is off the left and the heart of the Old Quarter to the right. The night I was there, a concert was being put in below, but usually that fountain is the center of a roundabout that makes the ring around the Arc de Triumph look like a Swiss motorway. #adventureisoutthere#traveldiary#joryseestheworld

This is the difference between living vegan and not living vegan. There is no in between, there is no happy medium.
We are either vegan or we exploit animals.
We are vegan and protect animals, or we cause them unnecessary suffering, violence and death.
We are either vegan and believe that morally animals matter, or we don't respect them and treat them as disposable.
Animals are sentient, they are persons, individuals just like we are. They feel emotionally and physically just like we do.
We can not claim to respect or love animals when we exploit their bodies, consume their flesh and secretions, and treat them as products. They are not products or resources for us. They are not food or fabric.
They are mothers, children, and friends. They live, they grieve, they bleed and they cower in fear.
The difference between being vegan and not being vegan, is speciesism. Loving some animals while eating, using and wearing other animals, even though they are equal. They all suffer the same, love the same and grieve the same.
Recognise what speciesism is and destroy it. The only way to do that is to live vegan.
Stop treating animals unfairly and violently. Abolish slaughterhouses. Destroy the animal industry.
You can not consume or wear animal products without causing suffering, violence and death. It's all so unnecessary and profoundly wrong.
Live vegan or live violently.

#TravelTuesday 🇲🇽I had chilles en gonada for the first time when I visited Mexico. It's such a pretty dish and very flavorful! Originated in Puebla, chiles en gonada is a poblano chile stuffed with meat and dried fruits, bathed in a creamy walnut sauce, and garnished with pomegranate seeds and parsley. This dish resembles the colors of the Mexican flag (green, white, and red), and is often served in September to celebrate the independence of Mexico.
