Pumpkin Pie Mousse is the perfect fall sweet treat at 2sp per serving. As I promised, here is the recipe▪️▪️▪️Mix 2 small boxes sugar free-fat free vanilla instant pudding mix (I used cheesecake instead) with 2 cups Almond Breeze unsweetened 30-calorie almond milk until well-blended. Stir in one 15oz can of pumpkin purée and 1 tsp pumpkin pie spice. Fold in one 8oz container of fat-free Cool Whip. Store in fridge. Makes twelve 1/2 cup servings at 2sp. I topped mine with fat-free Reddi Wip (0sp). So good - so creamy! Yay, Friday!! 🎈🎈🎈 Healthy bircher muesli: Combine 1 cup oats, 3/4 cup of milk of choice, 1/4 cup of nuts/seeds like pepitas and almonds, 1 grated apple or pear. Leave overnight. I don't post a lot of public bathroom shots because I generally think they look pretty meh but I was really proud of myself last night. G took me out to a really nice dinner and I was actually a bit scared. I was worried that I would blow my diet in order to feel like I got the experience of the restaurant or that I would be miserable having to order extremely restrictively. I LOVE food. I don't want to get a mediocre meal at a nice place just because I'm about to compete but I also know that this competition means a lot to me. I ordered the Alaskan Halibut with no sauce, no butter and no oil and it was delicious! I had them steam the vegetables instead of sautéing them and I couldn't be happier. We also started with oysters and a little bit of fresh horseradish with lemon juice(little bites of protein with very few calories!) When the waitress came around for dessert G ordered us cups of tea and by the time everything was over I was full, satisfied and had hit my macros while being under my calorie count! It felt really empowering to know that I could not only experience the finer things in life but that I could do it while holding strong to my healthy lifestyle even my most restrictive (competition time)! I know that was a lot to read but I wanted to share for those of you who have been considering a change in your fitness and health but have been scared that it will take out the fun in life. It doesn't! You just have to do it right. 💗
It seems that we have love-hate relationship with carbohydrates in modern world. There’re many diets that exclude carbohydrates but they barely consider individual needs.
Carbohydrates 🍞🍐🍬functions are: energy production and storage, building macromolecules like DNA/RNA, sparing protein from breaking down, and assisting in fat (lipid) metabolism.
1 gram of carbs = 4 calories of energy. Carbohydrates convert to sugar in the body for fuel. 🔹️Brain and entire nervous system use carbs for fuel. Low carbs⬇️ levels interfere with nervous system function. 🔹️Liver stores sugar (carbs) in the form of glycogen up to 5% of the liver mass. When blood sugar is low liver breaks down glycogen and releases sugar in the blood. 🔹️Muscles also store glycogen, BUT muscles are mean. They don’t like to share. Muscles use sugar only for their own needs. Aerobic activity like running for hours exhaust muscles, so they run out of fuel. Weight lifting training uses about 35-39% of glycogen stored in muscles on average (depends on intensity.)
After eating carbs based meal the blood sugar level rises. This triggers pancreas to release hormone insulin. Insulin tells the body to lower⬇️blood sugar by absorbing it into body cells. Some sugar goes into the liver and muscles for storage, and some is used by different tissues for fuel. If the concentration of sugar in blood is still high, liver converts sugar into fatty acids. Fatty acids are then deposited into FAT storage. ✔Eating too much carbohydrates make you fat! Worse things are 🍭candy, table sugar, everything made from white flour 🍪🍰(baked goods, white bread), cereals, sugary drinks, etc.
Choose complex carbs for slow releasing energy like oats, sweet or regular potatoes, barley, millet, buckwheat, brown rice, whole grain pasta.
We all need carbohydrates, but the amount depends on personal goals, activity level, age, type of training, weight/size, digestion patterns, etc. There is no exact amount of carbs for all. Everything is VERY personal and should fit your lifestyle.
