I've watched many short documentaries and followed the organization PETA in the past but have always done what most people do best in this situation, block the images out of my mind, ignore the problems and go about my merry little life. I've started off today with one or my absolute favourites - edamame and avo on toast ๐Ÿฅ‘. Fabulous with a sprinkling of fresh red chilli and a squeeze of lime. Even convinced the other half to have the same. And he enjoyed it. I perhaps should have mentioned the chilli ๐ŸŒถ though before the 3 year old put his hand in my plate to get some edamame ๐Ÿ˜‚. Anyone else love edamame? They are essentially immature soy beans and a good source of plant protein, and they taste amazing with avocado.

It's true that they're nutrients are not degraded by cooking but if you don't enjoy raw vegetables then you will not eat as many of them. The finished product! Meal prepping the last few weeks has been HARD. Motivation is on vacation apparently ๐Ÿ‘€ and I am just not into it. It's hard because meal prep is so helpful to stay on track and spend less time in kitchen. This meal was spontaneous tonight- leftover vegan wild rice soup, huge salad (that rainbow!) what was supposed to be quinoa tabouleh but I didn't realize I didn't have parsley (๐Ÿ™„) so it ended up as spiced quinoa with veggies and raita! Fall is on my mind! Autumn decor, jeans, boots, colors...๐Ÿ The stores are decked out and ready, and several times I have gotten that whiff of candy corn...you know that sweet scent! 
I used to be ADDICTED to that sugar! I overdid it way too many times, to the point of it making me sick...and then I would do it again!

We all have our issues with sugar binges...well I think most of us do! ๐Ÿ˜‰ But, I really can't believe how much of that ๐Ÿ’ฉ I used to eat. While I still have my sugar demons, I it's interesting to look back and see how much my diet has changed in the last few years! Habits are hard to break, but it's about creating new ones to replace the old.

We all have them...TV habits, morning habits, after work habits. Changing them is not always fun, it's way easier to make the easy choices... In that moment of making a choice the consequences are so often invisible.

Immediate gratification is a way easier choice most of the time, but too often that short term pleasure creates a long term "pain". Choose candy corn every day--->we all know what happens... Along with creating a nasty habit that's hard to break.

Not choosing that candy corn {or whatever habit you're trying to break} may feel like {short term} pain, but that's what creates long term pleasure in creating the new habits you want to achieve. 
It's a compound effect! 
Every decision ignites a compound effect
NEGATIVE or POSITIVE 
95% of our behavior is unconscious, so if we want to change the habit, we have to create new patterns. What do you want your new behavior and pattern to be???

Just realized you can microwave spaghetti squash and have it ready in 10 minutes! 
1. Poke holes in squash. At least 5 holes on each side.

2. Put squash on plate and place in microwave. 
3. Microwave for 5 minutes. Then flip squash over and microwave it for another 5 minutes 
4. Take out of microwave and let it cool. Be careful because it's hot!!!!! 5. Once cooled, cut in half and scrape out seeds. Then use a fork to scrape out the "noodles." Add to your favorite stir fry or use it in your spaghetti recipe instead of regular noodles!๐Ÿ Ready to change your nutrition for the better? Tinkering with reducing oxalates but trying not to go too quickly as apparently that can trigger oxalate "dumping" and related symptoms. Also still want to do some testing to see if any labs indicate they are an issue as I continue to try to find the cause of my worsening joint pain. Always digging for more answers. Anyone else exploring oxalates? Total newbie on this subject but reading up about it.

What are your favorite healthy breakfast foods? I love to start the day with a smoothie that includes @vitalproteins collagen peptides and avocado. It soothes my gut and preps me for the day ahead. Here's an easy and healthy PUMPKIN SMOOTHIE to start your morning off delicious! Blend all of this until smooth:
โ€ข
1 cup unsweetened almond milk
1/4 cup pumpkin purรฉe
1-2 scoops collagen peptides
1/2 avocado
1-2 tsp pumpkin pie spice
Few dashes of cinnamon
Liquid stevia extract to taste (could sub in maple syrup, dates, etc)
Handful of ice
Optional extra boost: Add in a handful of greens of your choice!
Top w/ unsweetened coconut flakes, chopped nuts, chia seeds, etc!

Dietitian Tip: Think fresh ingredients in a new way. To increase my vegetable intake (always think how you can ADD to a meal...never take away), I ADDED a sweet potato. .
Can you eat tortillas? Of course you can but also remember that there needs to be a time and place for them. 80% of the time you're giving your body what it needs, 20% of the time it's ok to enjoy your "indulgences". Obviously this is not the indulgence meal here but you get the idea. .
