Some days lift your spirits...and yesterday was just one of those days for me. As we quietly looked around the area we were in, @onceuponan_om20 and I could hear the myriad of birds chirping away. We went in opposite directions for a while. Then I hear a whisper "there's a Swift Parrot up in that tree over there". So I followed my very keen-eyed husband - and guess what? There sure was...and there was a holllow! The rather skinny tree that most of us would not expect to see a hollow in, was perfect for the little parrot 🌳Swift Parrots (Lathamus discolor) are listed as Critically Endangered. They breed in Tasmania. They are very small. They are extraordinarily beautiful 🌳 We were privileged to see them and we kept our distance, so no close ups 🐦
Surviving the heat. This young Pacific Slope Flycatcher was keeping deep in the shadows with its mouth open to release heat on a scorching September day in Southern California. At this moment, I was lucky to catch a glimpse of the entire bird dappled in light.
