Happy Monday!! I know I’m probably the minority here, but I absolutely LOVE Mondays. I think it’s because it’s the start of a brand new week and so I get to set myself a whole new bunch of goals and objectives for the week. I usually plan to do something nice at least once a week with friends or even just by myself, so I guess I’m always looking forward to that too. I have a challenge for you this week: Let’s try this week to reduce the amount of stress and pressure we place on ourselves. Yes it’s indeed Monday again and that means another working week, but we need to be realistic about the stresses and demands we have of ourselves. I am not trying to point out the obvious when I say that stress is bad for you. It honestly and sincerely is on so many levels. Yes there are the mental and physical demand increases when you increase your stress, but beyond that there are also increased hormonal activity that will likely result in less than ideal outcomes for you.
For example, did you know when you stress your cortisol and insulin hormones increase? These hormones trigger fat storage and weight retention (or even weight gain). It is important to remember that you are human and so there is only so much that you can realistically achieve in a day. Beyond that may seem like it would be of great benefit to you and you work, but please remember not to berate yourself or punish yourself if you aren’t able to achieve extra things.
Some ideas to help you reduce the amount of stress in your day/week:
*Set yourself some goals for the day - not too many, or nothing will get done.
*Give yourself time to take breaks during the day so that you don’t burn out.
*Make sure you eat at regular times to keep up your energy and mental focus.
*Get out and enjoy the sunshine and some fresh air if you can.
*Go for a walk/jog (20-30 mins is plenty of time) just to clear your mind and increase your endorphins.
*Schedule one morning in the week when you don’t have to jump out of bed and rush around super early.
