A little tip from my few years of photographic experience:
When you're in a group and out on the field with your companions, try to stay behind for a while, observe and capture. I bet you'll get much more interesting frames.
This has served me on several occasions. On our Sandakphu trek, for instance, I reached each spot much later than most of my fellow trekkers, which sure made me take a little longer to get my hands on the food and the hot Himalayan tea but the photographs, natural, for that matter, of my companions made it all worth the wait.
Try it. You won't be disappointed. Word.
