I can't think of a better last image to share from India. Even though the 6 months I spent there ended in June I still can't quite put my experience into words. I am still processing the beauty and terror I witnessed daily. Mother India, I will be back some day!
Sept 2017 l Dal Lake, Srinagar, Kashmir. Taken during my Shikara Boat ride.
I vividly remember the ladies on the boat waving back to me when they saw me snapping away.
It was a Friday and I was on my way to the Hazrabat Shrine for a visit, as well as the bazaar, as the crowd is known to be the largest due to Friday Prayers.
"I saw this guy selling lemon tea on a street in Kolkata. I bought one and told him thanks because the tea was just perfect for me and my tired legs. He replied to my thanks in a unique way. I will never forget that....."
That's an excerpt from my latest blog post - A story of a man from a street of Kolkata in India!
Today, on 17th October, the International Day for the Eradication of Poverty, I am sharing a story of a man from a street of Kolkata in India. Read it at the link in my bio or on travelrealizations.com
Mumbai: A city of contrasts. It never stopped surprising us. With more than 18 million inhabitants, the city has so much to offer. It's contrasts and culture make it one of a kind. Definitely a place for the bucket list.
Just like there are places which make you feel calm and at peace. Similarly, there are some places which gives you strength, teach you that love is for everyone, that everyone is as human as you are, and that life is beautiful no matter what.
For me @katkathastories is that place. The first time when I actually ever spoke about my sexual abuse was at this place, in January 2017, in a room full of 40 people. I spoke because I knew no one would judge me. I had no fear. There was no looking back after that.
Today was the second time I went there. To celebrate Diwali with the women who live in brothels we lovingly call 'Didi' (elder sister). I know there's a stigma attached to this place. That it is filthy, and this and that but as Kat Katha rightly puts "ye pyaar ka mauhalla hai". Kat Katha works in GB road to empower these women and the children living there. To tell the world that the people here are as human as you are. Festivals mean happiness and happiness is for everyone, so why not share it with others?
When I went into the brothels today, I was welcomed with smiles, we greeted each other Happy Diwali, distributed sweets among Didis, we hugged them, they hugged us back, we sat, had tea, conversations and some had cold drinks as well. While we were sitting and chit chatting in one of the brothels, a Didi said, "hum sirf duayein de sakte hain aur kuchh nahi" ( we can only give you blessings) and it will stay in my heart for a long long time.
One of the things that will always stay with me is the joy in their eyes and on their faces.
This post is to tell you that you should not believe everything you hear. It is to tell you that this place is the most beautiful spots in Delhi.
It is to tell you that love is for everyone. That if you ever go to any Red light area then don't think about the things this world has put in your mind. In fact, don't think at all. It is to tell you that they also have families, just like all of us. It is to tell you that you can light someone's face by putting diyas on the dark staircases or by painting the walls in every color possible. *CONTINUED IN COMMENTS*

Я и @orangeked. Будет что-то☄️
