Sound alteration: more explanations. 📨
I received a question today about the s+/j/ alteration. I know you may have native speaking friends who may not be aware of these rules.
In fact, not all English teachers know what I'm talking about. But☝I get this information from 3 proven sources:
The accent training books I read and courses I take (I reference the books I use in my free eBook, link in bio⤴)
My experience of living and studying in the USA
My ear that's trained to hear pitches, intonation changes and nuances.
So, yes. Sound alteration is a real deal, and people do say things like this. It's not tongue twisters, it's a real language👍
I encourage you to trust and practice.

The complexity of the dual emotions of being an immigrant are ones that are dichotomous and one that can only be understood by people in the same situation. When we speak of our dual homes, we can be contradictory and at different times show more affinity to one over the other. The truth is that in each situation and at that moment in time, we are attuned or relatable to that particular home at that time and we are being honest about that home at that time. The conclusive imperical truth is that we do have two homes and we do feel at home in both in different ways. In conclusion, our homes are not defined by geographical boundaries, rather, they are defined by the presence or absence of individuals. I love #nigeria with all her problems and #america with all her problems equally #immigrant#expat#culture#travel#homeiswheretheheartis#homesweethome#greenwhitegreen#starsandstripes
Kimchi is a staple in Korean cuisine. It is made from salted and fermented cabbage and radishes. Then you add scallions, ginger, chili powder, garlic and fish sauce. Traditionally, Kimchi was stored in soil underground to protect it from freezing during the winter.

We've officially arrived in the south of Spain. Now, we'll spend the next 20 days or so situated about 15 minutes from here, housesitting near Mijas, where we'll aim to do justice to this seemingly stunning part of the planet.
We spent some time at the Jim Thompson house in Bangkok. While I was thoroughly impressed by the open, airy house with the large windows and wooden floors, I was most impressed by the incredible gardens surrounding his house. It was so green and lush, and the flowers were spectacular.
I'm inspired. I want to turn my yard into a garden oasis! 🌺
Zürich certainly has no shortage of beautiful churches. I walked on a new street and of course saw a new church.
Kirche Enge. Built between 1892 and 1894.
Hidden away from the cities other major churches. #traveltuesday

"I wanted a perfect ending. Now I've learned, the hard way, that some poems don't rhyme, and some stories don't have a clear beginning, middle, and end. Life is about not knowing, having to change, taking the moment and making the best of it, without knowing what's going to happen next.
