It’s #TriYogaTuesday with the #TriYogaSchool team & this week we are studying #extendedsideangle or #utthitaparsvakonasana 👩‍🎓 This pose relieves stiffness in the back & shoulders, & opens the hips & chest. It strengthens the legs, knees & ankles as well as stretching & toning the abdominal muscles. Utthita Parsvakonasana also brings awareness to the side body & develops endurance. 🎓
 Extended Side Angle Alignment Cues:
1. Have a long stance - A lot of students keep their feet too close together, which means they don’t get the all important hip stretch
2. The front foot is parallel to the mat, & the back foot is at 90 degrees. Align the heel of the front foot with the arch of the back foot
3. Keep pressing the outer edge of the back foot down to the mat - It has a tendency to lift up
4. The front leg is bent at a right angle. Have the thigh parallel to the floor & keep the knee directly over the ankle. More advanced students can bring the knee over the front foot
5. Your supporting hand is flat on the mat (the Ashtanga variation has it on the outside of the front foot). Your shoulder should be stacked over your wrist. Press the front leg outwards against your arm to open the hips 
6. Keep the legs engaged & strong - Sink the hips low to open the hips further
7. Maintain one long diagonal line by really extending through the lifted arm
8. Open the chest & draw the lower belly back towards the spine
9. Shoulder blades roll down the back, making space around the neck
10. The gaze point, or drishti, is up at the lifted hand

Almost there...day 5 of #cbyfestivus was extended side angle and revolved side angle. One day I will get out of runner's lunge and get that back foot flat! ✊ For now, patience. 😤

Pic 1: Extended Side Angle (Utthita Parsvakonasana)
Ideally you'd like the front leg to be at a 90-degree angle parallel to the floor. But whatever angle you're at keep the knees stacked over the ankle and not past your toes. This is a wider stance then triangle but keep it short if you still have some tight outer leg lines. The bottom hand will eventually touch the floor but until then use a block. The top arm can be kept at the waist if you tend to have tight shoulders or extended like my picture.

Pics 2-4: Revolved Side Angle (Parivrtta Parsvakonasana) Here I'm showing the 3 variations of the modified position; each one building up eventually to the full expression. If this pose is still very new to you lower the back knee. Then you can start in a high lunge position and eventually spinning the back heel down so you're in a Warrior 2 stance. Use a block for the bottom hand until it can connect with the floor. The top hand does stay extended or at the waist.

Been a little MIA over the past week dealing with some personal issues but things are finally starting to look up 👍 It’s important to acknowledge the good, the bad, the ugly.

Many times I come off as very carefree and happy go lucky. Peace, love, smiles and all that good light stuff. But I’m not always like that. And that’s fine. Life is all about the upward wins and downhill battles. The journey will be a messy one but we will always make it to the top.

Since back from Bali I often find myself wondering about the changes I was lucky enough to receive on this journey. Sometimes I feel like I’m just back in my old loop of the Viennese swamp, as I call it, and everything is the same. But then I see, the situations may be similar, but my view of them is entirely shifted. The outside world remains as is, but my perception of it is another. It’s funny what you can see in the same things if your focus is a new one. Sitting in class, especially philosophy lectures, you would not believe it but so much reoccurs that I feel so humble and grateful for to have attained in Bali. Knowledge, Situations and Lessons just keep crossing my ways with some serious aha-moments, such as this: „I would add something that may seem paradoxical: namely that in this present imperfect condition of the world the conscious ability to do without happiness gives the best prospect of bringing about such happiness as is attainable. For nothing except that consciousness can raise a person above the chances of life by making him feel that fate and fortune have no power to subdue him. Once he feels that, it frees him from excessive anxiety about the evils of life and lets him (like many a Stoic in the worst times of the Roman Empire) calmly develop the sources of satisfaction that are available to him, not concerning himself with the uncertainty regarding how long they will last or the certainty that they will end.“ (Stuart Mill) is this not what we are trying to do in yoga, and the very same that the Bhaghavad Gita teaches us when Krishna says „When the senses contact sense objects, a person experiences cold or heat, pleasure or pain. These experiences are fleeting; they come and go. Bear them patiently, Arjuna. Those who are unaffected by these changes, who are the same in pleasure and pain, are truly wise and fit for immortality. Assert your strength and realize this! Im reminding everyone not to forget to S-T-R-E-T-C-H 🙌🏽 While at my office I was taking out the mail and I decided to do a mini yoga sess! Hee. I hope my office neighbor's don't mind. Hee. They have video cameras EVERYWHERE!! I always 🙋‍♀️ to them! Hee. 🌸🌸I wanted to challenge myself a bit, so today I pushed myself a bit harder and ACTUALLY got my nose/face to lay against my left leg. I tired my right side, but it was too tight. Hee. BUUUUTTTT I was able to put my (bad) right arm down back BEHIND my right leg!! Yayyy!!! #FirstTimeEver but I can't put pressure on my wrist in that angle or it'll go numb. (From the car accident in Feb.2017)🌸🌸

Hee. 🌸🌸I wanted to challenge myself a bit, so today I pushed myself a bit harder and ACTUALLY got my nose/face to lay against my left leg. I tired my right side, but it was too tight. Hee. BUUUUTTTT I was able to put my (bad) right arm down back BEHIND my right leg!! Yayyy!!! #FirstTimeEver  but I can't put pressure on my wrist in that angle or it'll go numb.
