Female American Kestrel is the smallest and most common falcon in North America. Kestrels have been known to hide surplus kills in grass clumps, tree roots, bushes, fence posts and other places to hide from thieves or save food for lean times.
Queen of the Beach - Peregrine falcon surveys the morning landscape for prey. It was a treat to observe this beautiful bird this past week. I was really careful to avoid bumping her from her favorite log and was rewarded with 20 minutes of her preening and resting in the golden winter morning light. Definitely a memorable wildlife encounter to remember.
Species: Peregrine Falcon (Falco peregrinus)
