I know many of you worry a lot about the blackheads on your nose. If you haven't peered into the mirror recently, you'll almost certainly do so later today. But I have a surprise for you: those probably aren't blackheads.
Do me a favor. Take your nails, and try to squeeze the little dots. If nothing comes out, they're most likely pores dirtied with dirt and skin, known as sebaceous filaments. Sebum is a moisturizing substance your face produces naturally, but when dirt and makeup build up in the pore, it can clog.
Unfortunately, there isn't much you can do in terms of prevention. Pores are a part of your skin, and won't be removed. Charcoal strips can be damaging to the pores and can cause broken capillaries, so I recommend a good exfoliating routine, a clay mask every so often, and an oil cleanser to try and keep the area clean and stem the production of oil.
Good luck! If you have any questions, let me know!
Remember to cleanse those pretty faces tonight, lovies!
We've all done it; we've all committed the skin sin of blowing off cleansing our faces after a night out because our bed beckons to us! However, even one night of coming home and crashing with your makeup on can compromise your skin's barrier.
According to dermatologist Dr. Annie Chiu, "Dirt and makeup trapped against your skin cause environmentally-induced oxidative damage. This leads to a breakdown of the skin barrier and prematurely ages your face."
Still not enough motivation for you?
I'll let Dr. Sue Ann Wee of Schweiger Dermatology Group in NYC add her two cents as well: "Sleeping with makeup on is not a good idea. First, makeup can trap dirt and environmental pollutants inside the skin, and this type of environmental stress can result in increased free radicals which can cause DNA mutations, collagen degradation, and, over time, can result in premature aging." Yikes! 😬
Bottom line - clean your face before you hit the hay!
