Walking into (and out of) autumn... I found this great little spot off the Blue Ridge Parkway, with these curious stepping stones that look like something out of a fairytale. The stones are part of the Otter Lake Loop Trail, just downstream from the dam. I’d shot there several times in the past, but apparently had never walked the 30 yards required to find these. I’m glad I did this time.
Photographed with a Nikon D3s and 28-70mm f/2.8 lens on a Gitzo 3541LS tripod and B+W circular polarizing filter.

Thanks to that amazing shot from @creativedogmedia that I shared yesterday it made me want to take Ollie to the park! Probably one of the last times before the year ends, so worth it! We spent more than 5 hours there yesterday and it was hands down one of the best experiences at @maymontrva. Up in the garden at the children’s farm there was a gentleman watering plants who shared some awesome lettuce with us that we snacked on as we walked but that was not the last we would see of him! We saw him again down by the raptors, I learned so much, we walked the whole bit of the raptors with him and Oliver came up with all kinds of questions about the birds! I know now vultures can be loving to one another, despite their appearance and general eat dead things thing they’ve got going on, like the way the pair of black vultures they have there rub their beaks together, that the #baldeagles do not fly out of their enclosure (I have aways wondered why) because they cannot, they are injured birds as are the rest of them, either blind, wing damage etc, and they cannot be returned to the wild. My day was topped off with some of the most vibrant colors in the #japanesegardens on the #japanesemaple trees which is what I was there for♥️ I’m a sucker for that beautiful fall foliage and really all the super awesome stuff mother nature does for us. I think Oliver is too, he asked before we left for the park if he could use my camera to take pictures of the animals, I was extremely nervous about that as I’ve got a Cannon Rebel T6i I love but he did great and listened like a champ and actually got some awesome pictures (once I set it all back to auto everything 😂) not just of the animals but of flowers and trees and even a few pictures of me! Happy Wednesday!!

With the cooler weather of fall, Ellie has been up for longer walks and eager to re-unite with her buddy Steve, who if he’s out on his porch gives her treats. Nearby is this mural I used to frequently walk past on the way home from work, so I was pleased when she wanted to come in this direction and I was able to photograph the two good pups, Ellie and Pepper, sitting together. A coming together of the two routes I walked each day, the walk from the train and the walk with the pup. I think she only wanted to come this way so she could double back and give Steve an extra chance to be on his porch, as he’s only been there once. She’s even tried to triple back but that I don’t allow. #Ellie#dog#blacklab#fallcolor#leaves#art#mural#irvington#portland#oregon
