The first planting of corn got flooded out when the river flooded this spring. The second planting is some of the best my stepdad has ever grown. He's 6'. I walked from Hawkshead to Sawrey through the greenery and hills that inspired Beatrix Potter. I came to the first house she owned, Hilltop, which has been beautifully preserved by @nationaltrust. I don't think I've ever been as in awe of a historic property before! The doorways, furniture, garden, fireplaces of Hilltop and the cobbled streets and buildings of Near Sawrey look exactly like they do in her illustrations. It's completely magical! Best 10 pounds I've spent in a long time. She was an incredible person and naturalist who's imagination created iconic characters of rabbits, ducks, cats, mice such as Peter Rabbit and Jemima puddleduck. Enjoyed by munchkins like me ❤️🦆🐇🐁
Horse pulls at the exhibition are such a rush, the draft horses will literally dance on the spot until they hear that metal 'click' of the pull being hooked to the weights. Straps snap, shoes come flying off, the metal harness attachment can break just from the force of their weight. Once in a while a horse might fall to its front knees from lunging so hard. It all sounds violent, but the horses are in a sort of crazed trance as soon as they get backed up to the weighted sled; they know what's coming, they're impatient and full of false-starts. The rules are strict to protect them (there are even random piss tests!), no whips or any kind of force is used-all the pulling is sheer willpower. The weights get built up anywhere from 8000 to 24,000 pounds and the teams drop off until one is left; the winner.

The only ingredients from this meal that aren't from our farm are the oil and salt I used to sautée the veggies. Sustainable yums are yes 💛Onions, potatoes, coriander (harvested from our cilantro), basil, red malabar spinach, free range eggs, plums and asian pears 💚So much yes! I only used about half the ingredients that I harvested and was super satisfied with the meal that came out of it 👌🏽So, fellow humans, how are you doing? Are you taking care of yourself?
