🎯The first image that flashes in my mind when I think of DISCIPLINE is a drill sergeant shouting and screaming in a war movie...and I think that's how most of us think of discipline when it comes fitness: The "all or nothing", "RA RA RA", "LETS DO THIISSSSSS" mindset.

🎢The truth is- it looks nothing like that. These 4 tricks to becoming more disciplined are exactly what we teach the people in our #mfc30daychallenge because they actually WORK!

🎳Remove temptations: this one is pretty straight forward...you're gonna exert a HELLUVA lot more energy saying no to temptations each day if they're in your house...so just throw 'em out and KEEP them out. If your kids or spouse eat junk food, still throw it out, stand firm and be bold. This doesn't mean you don't enjoy the yummy foods at times- you just don't keep them in your house.

🎲5 second rule: NO, this isn't the rule about eating food off the ground before 5 seconds😋 The idea comes from @melrobbinslive and her thesis is basically this: whenever you don't feel like doing what you need to do (ex: working out, meal prepping, getting out of bed, etc.) you start a countdown in your head. 5...4...3...2...1 and JUST GO DO IT! It's extremely powerful, especially when you're not feeling motivated. Do it anyway.

✨Schedule breaks and rewards: other Coaches will disagree with me on this one, but I don't think there's anything wrong with rewarding yourself with food. What we recommend to our Challengers is following your meal plan 80-90% Monday - Friday and then it's perfectly okay to loosen the reigns on the weekend AS LONG as you're staying within your calorie/macros daily goals. This eliminates the damage from guilt when people eat yummy food. You can enjoy your yum AND reach your goals.

⛑Pressing vertically overhead is a fundamental movement pattern that is frequently done wrong due to lack of mobility. Now add in pre-existing shoulder pain and this movement can make things worse. Instead of going vertical with your press, try the Half-Kneeling Single Arm Landmine Press.

👡The Half-Kneeling Single Arm Landmine Press is one of my go-to exercises whenever I have a client with shoulder pain or mobility issues. It's a lot friendlier on the shoulders due to pressing in a diagonal plane and gets the same benefits as the vertical press.

👓When performing the exercise, you will press with the same arm as the knee on the ground. Keep your ribs down, squeeze your glutes and your spine should remain vertically aligned. This will help you maintain good posture throughout the pressing movement.

🐛Stop training dumb when you have shoulder pain. Being a hero only gets you hurt worse. I've been there, done that and it sucks. There's ways to work around it and if you want strong, pain free shoulders then this is a good place to start.

Yesterday’s post “Signs You Might Need to Fix Your Gut” got an overwhelming response from people who are struggling with many of the symptoms I mentioned. Which honestly breaks my heart. But while I hate hearing that so many are suffering, it’s exactly the reason I feel the need to talk about this stuff. I received so many questions from people asking, “This is me! What do I do to fix it!?” that I figured it was best to make a follow up showing what you can do to start healing your gut. Truthfully, there are many steps, so I’m breaking it up into 2 parts. Please keep in mind, I am not a doctor, just someone who has been there and seen results from doing everything I will outline. This is a long one, so keep reading on into the comments, and please let me know if I can help in any way.

Don’t shoot the messenger for this one, but the first step is to remove foods that damage or inflame the gut lining. Each person will vary in their sensitivity, but often this means avoiding gluten, low quality dairy, processed carbs, refined sugar, most grains and legumes, alcohol and shitty quality vegetable oils. I know that’s hard to hear as it eliminates so many yummy foods, but it’s really important to do until you’ve made progress.

After you’ve eliminated the most common culprits, next would be to eliminate the foods you are sensitive to. This could be eggs, nuts, coffee, chocolate, nightshades, or really anything you find yourself reacting negatively to.

Good gut health is dependent on having enough beneficial bacteria. Many people with gut issues have an imbalance of bad vs. good bacteria. To increase the good guys, eat probiotic rich foods (I have a whole post on that a few weeks back), while also eating prebiotic foods for the bacteria to feed on.

The body needs the right nutrients to heal and control inflammation. This means eating lots of vegetables (cooked is best if you have gut problems), some fruits, starches like sweet potatoes and plantains, good quality protein like grass fed meat, antimicrobial fats like coconut oil, and anti-inflammatory omega 3 fats like salmon, eggs, and grass fed meat.
