These days, consumers hold companies to high standards. We want to know that a business is building something more than simply revenues. Respect for the environment, philanthropy, ethical labor practices, and volunteering are some of the factors we consider when assessing how mindful a corporation is of the community.
In Lebanon, one such company has taken it upon itself to make a real difference in the country, and in doing so, it has earned my heartfelt trust. Family-owned and operated, @wesleyswholesale isn’t merely focused on food essentials (though happily for us, they do a darn good job at it!). Wesley’s has undertaken a variety of community-based initiatives that are all about channeling profit to benefit people and planet, like partnering with @foodblessed to provide food for the hungry.
Get the entire scoop (and read how YOU too can help!) on the blog Beirutista.co linked in profile.

Each night of the week The Free Store redistributes 1,500 excess food items to anyone who wants them - no questions asked.
Kiwis throw away a reported $625 million worth of food every year - equal to about 120,000 tons of food. And yet New Zealand’s food waste is a small drop in the proverbial bucket. 1.3 billion tons of food are wasted worldwide every year - 88 million tons in Europe, and 66.5 million in the U.S.
According to UNICEF, nearly 300,000 or about one third of New Zealand children live in poverty. Worldwide, the number is nearly 385 million children.
We are a long way from finding a definitive solution, but non-profit organizations and establishments across the world are increasingly looking at 2in1 solutions to hunger and food waste. The Free Store is valiantly leading the charge in New Zealand.
Tomorrow NIGHT I'll be performing at @kawaespressobar to help raise funds for @bb4ck! Doors at 7pm. No cover. All ages! PLUS I'll be selling custom bracelets that I designed and donating a portion of the proceeds!!! ❤️🙏🏼❤️
#ThrowbackThursday A little bit sad that that tonight is usually the night that I do my Off the Shelf food bank dinner featuring traditional food waste and items found in food banks. After 5 years of doing it, the event has changed format, and I’m not participating. I hope they had a great event tonight. No fear...I’m going to take the idea and run with it myself. If anyone wants to talk about how to implement one of these events, please let me know. Stay tuned for details.
In my journey to becoming more #minimal I'm ashamed to remember all the people who are minimal without choice, many of whom are my #neighbours . Every time I go to the grocery story I aim to donate 10% or more of my spend to the local #foodbank I know it isn't nearly enough to stop hunger and poverty but I like to think that I am spending my money in a wiser way. Do you have a local food donation point at your supermarket? If so, consider donating. If not, consider asking for a donation point to be created. But most importantly, write to your local member of government and ask why there is a need for food banks in the #21stcentury#groceries#stopworldhunger this isn't a matter of party politics. For me it is a matter of children and people going to bed with empty stomachs, or malnutrition and starvation in a society of excess. It is quite simply a moral wrong that can and should be addressed, but isn't.
I'm not Jewish, but I learned about the Jewish tradition of donating 10% minimum of your income to those in need while I was at university. It is a principle that I have strived to live my life by at all times, even when at my most financially unstable.
For me, #minimalism isn't (only!) about creating a cool, #chic#scandinaviandesign style home. It is mostly about creating a life for myself and my family that #doesnoharm •••
What is minimalism for you? Are there any foods or essentials that you would recommend donating to food banks in particular? #bethechange#publicpolicy#awareness#hunger#dosomething
GavinJoseph G: " Hi Julius, how are you doin'?".
Julius: "I'm doing very well, and yourself?".
G:" I'm doing okay. Where you from?".
G"And now you're living on the street these days? J:"Yes".
G" what happened?". J: "I left home for school and my things were stolen from me, my books, laptop and other things.
G: "that made you stay on the street and where did you get a laptop?" J: "I will be going home, at first I called at home and I told them what happened but they where furious to me, I hadn't got the courage yet to go back, my uncle works abroad and he brought me a laptop and a few books".
G: "which school?
J: "Studying at Bethel".
G: " How have you found the street so far". J: "The Situation on the street is not good we are beaten in the night, they think we have money yet we don't have and if you don't give them, they beat us up, i have been sleeping on old park. But now I have the confidence and I also want to go back to school. Julius has a good heart and he also helps his friends. When you support the outreaches we do, you help so many kids like Julius get back on their feet, many more kids get a chance to go back to school, others are re - United with there families and that is so beautiful.
Your support is doing a difference.
Unexpected little surprise adventures you get working at Camp Bethel... Yesterday day we loaded up the van with food for hungry children in our area, today we delivered that food. It was emotional and wonderful to be apart of a crew that is making a positive impact. To go out there and work with other folks with the same passion fills my heart full. When I think of God reflecting on his people these are things that bless his heart. So much good happens everyday, but we overlook it.
So on top of all the various awesome things I was able to witness and be apart of, I got to cautiously pet a few horses..2 dogs,a pony..and just fall in love with God all over again. It was a good day.

#tbt Foreign mission fields are closer than you think. Throughout our lives, we have gone on short-term mission trips around the world. Our trips to extremely poor places enabled us to understand hunger and the effect it has on children. Five years ago, after a trip to the smallest villages in Kenya, we realized that the percentage of hungry people in Central Alabama was the same as in Africa. After much prayer, we began to share a few bags of food from our pickup truck to some of the most food-deprived children in our county. We discovered that government programs are unable to meet the hunger needs of approximately 21,000 children in our five surrounding counties. We poured ourselves into this, and began to seek help. We are now helping to feed more 2,000 children each week in these five counties as Alabama Childhood Food Solutions. In cooperation with 38 churches, hundreds of individuals, and several corporations, ACFS also serves 580 families each month by appointment in Central Alabama. We believe God placed in our hearts the desire to feed the hungry so that a generation of children can be changed into highly productive citizens as they grow.
