Tonight we return to Cornish delight, Curio.
This four times distilled Rock Samphire gin is inspired by flavour and captures the light, fresh sea spray and wild aromas of the Cornish coast. Developed by Husband and Wife team William and Rubina Tyler-Street, it contains 15 botanicals some of which are hand foraged on the local cliff tops.
Distilled in small batches it’s super smooth with a distinct and enjoyable profile. On the nose juniper is very much present, whilst on the palate seaweed and rock samphire shine accompanied by soft citrus and gentle spice. Gentle spice provides the finish. Key botanicals can be found in the bottle design and include juniper, rock samphire, seaweed, coriander and star anise.
We love intriguing flavours at ‘The Gin To My Tonic’ and introducing pink peppercorn to Curio has intrigued us for some time. The combination is just fabulous, adding a little kick to the coastal flavours and providing warmth to a cold coastal inspired evening. For tonic we opted for Merchant’s Heart inspired pink peppercorn tonic accompanied by a garnish of Pink Peppercorn to really bring home those flavours. The tonic is ever so subtle with the pink peppercorn kick coming through on the finish. Personally we find it’s just delightful, and unlike some flavoured tonics it really does allow the gin flavours to shine before coming forth with its own flavoured finish.

Great Xmas get together with close friends, but when put on the spot to do some Mixology you work with what you’ve been given. This is the first concoction.
50ml @gordonsginuk Elderflower Gin
25ml @chambordchannel Raspberry Liqueur 10ml fresh lime juice + lime wedges for garnish
10ml sugar syrup (made on the fly)
Some blueberries for garnish
Build all the ingredients (except tonic) in with large glass with lots of ice, stir to mix (didn’t have a shaker!), then top up with the tonic.
