"Biodiversity Reclamation Suits for Urban Pigeons: Carolina Parakeet." Laurel Roth Hope, an artist and former park ranger in Northern California, crochets small suits for urban pigeons that disguise them as extinct birds, in an attempt to (visually) re-create biodiversity and place a soothing "cozy" on environmental fear. @chainsawgirl #arts#crochet#birds#extinction#climatechange#solanocollege#solanocounty#fiberarts
This skein I am calling "marbles" because I'm of the rovings I used looked like a marble. Created with 50% baby alpaca, 25% fine Merino, and 25% Mullberry silk, I got about 185 yards out of this one so far, and will probably create another matching one or two to get 500-600 yards of the same. Spinning is a great calming activity to help me calm down my wrath at the nonsense going on with our coward of a president and his supporters who have shown they have no concern for humanity. Spinning, spinning, spinning. Join my spinning meditation group for support in calming the presidential limbic overload starting August 26th. We can all survive this together. #spinningmeditation#spindle#alltheyarns#alltheyarn#fiberarts#handspunyarn

Turning old cotton leggings that have bit the dust, into thick "yarn" for weaving things like decorative plant hangers. This is only half of one leg. Lots more is on its way! Just cut a long line starting at one end of a leg and when you reach the other end of the leg, stop just before ending the line. Start the next one just a little to the side of it so that the two will be connected by the extra space you left. Zig Zag like that until you can't anymore. #zerowaste#reuse#diy#crafts#fiberarts
Paying Attention, Day 15 | Only at the @scrapexchange can you find mass quantities of flasks & beakers, sewing supplies, body forms, a digestive system sculpture/wall hanging, empty pill bottles, egg crates, floppy disks, shoulder pads and a sci-fi book on dragons. I brought my mom for her (and my) first time Saturday and she wanted to hit it up again today before heading home tomorrow. This trip, I left with yarn for weaving, an absinthe spoon and an embroidered purse from Mexico for $14.50. The Scrap Exchange is a non-profit that promotes creativity, environmental awareness, and community through reuse. Thrifting + craft supplies + doing good = my happy place. #augustbreak2017#day15#dragon

Golden priestess of the hive. So a little story on this beauty, I started the center piece about a year ago. Then I had the instinct to gather all the bits of really special yarn I had laying about and create a new home.. As I was crocheting I felt some what sick and noticed my boobs hurt and had gotten bigger, so I decided to take a pregnancy test.. shortly after I found out I was expecting my little Anira moon 🌙... so this beauty of a hood is for myself and maybe Anira if she would like it. Much time went into it, I restarted it about three or four times before I was happy with the way it was coming out. I discovered new techniques within this creation. A side story/ I was going to make it for a very close friend, but in the last few days I decided to keep this one.. so at last a gift to myself of the creation of my child.. #sacredspiritcrochet#crochetlove#freeform#fiberarts#highpriestess#lotusflower#goldenhour

My dear friend @shannonpierce_ came over a couple weeks ago to hang and take pictures while I wove. The result was a beautiful lifestyle shoot of me working in my home. As many of you know, I've been working out of my living room/kitchen/bedroom for more than a year. This is changing soon, but I am so thankful to have beautiful photos to remind me of this magical, challenging, pivotal time. The link to her blog is in my bio if you're interested in the full shoot. Thank you for capturing this moment, Shannon. I'm so thankful for your friendship! 🕸📷✨ #make30minutes
I'm so excited & proud of this piece. This shawl was made from wool that I spun into yarn. It has taken me many many hours of spare time here & there over the last 5 months to get all the wool spun into yarn & crocheted into this super airy yet extremely warm shawl. I made this for myself, which I seldom do... It's a piece to remind me of where I began as a spinner. 🐑✨💖 •
