It was an honor to speak before Veterans Caucus at the California Democratic State Party Convention this evening in Sacramento, after receiving the endorsement of the California State Association of Letter Carriers this afternoon. As I've always said, the best way to avoid endless wars and international conflict is by electing combat veterans to national office.
It's time to #finishthejob in 2018 and #flipthe49th#semperfi#cadem2017#strongertogether#notmeus#gobigorgohome
Hey guys! Dave is on vacation for the next couple of weeks so I'll be taking on the day to day for the devo's!
I'd like to start with a question; how did David kill Goliath?
Any child who's been in Sunday school could answer this question, right? David used his sling to hurl a stone at Goliath's head and it *boom* struck him dead! FALSE. The stone did not kill Goliath. Goliath was killed when David approached him, drew Goliath's own sword and killed him with it then decapitated him for good measure!
I feel there is something to learn about why we fail in overcoming our giants and conquering sin; we don't finish the job. What if David had turned and celebrated immediately after toppling the giant? What would would have happened if David had decided to bust out his shepherds smartphone and taken a battlefield selfie? Goliath would have gotten back up. And Goliath would have been mad.
Too often we celebrate the victory without having gone all the way, like the running back who decides to slow down and high step his way into the end zone only to be pummeled by a monster defensive end inches from the goal. We make a decision to move towards Christ or away from our sin, great, but we stop there thinking that that is the goal line. Then, a week later we are back where we were or worse off. We can't get so caught up in a strong start, but instead we must strive to be like David and the apostle Paul when he declared, "I have fought the good fight. I have finished the race." (2 Tim. 4:7)
Don't just start the job, finish it.

Throwback to May 2009 when @rexywawa @a_wazz & I sat right on the glass behind the goal for a Caps 2nd round playoff win (3-2 in Game 1) over the Penguins. Hoping for more of the same at the Phone Booth tonight, let's go Caps!! #RockTheRed#FinishTheJob#ChangeTheNarrative#DCorNothing
This is an exciting moment for me. I've been working on all the parts of creating completed projects, but it's rare that I have a true reason to create a finished project. This is the start of something new for me. Here's my original artwork and hand lettering printed in bulk for party invites! I never thought I'd be the one to create such a thing! I truly believed this kind of work was beyond me, for 31 years I allowed myself to believe that I wasn't capable of making something complete. This is taking a turn into emotional territory. But there it is, I've said it "out loud". Until a few weeks ago, I didn't believe that I was capable of completing a thing. It's silly, because there are plenty of things I've "completed", however, there was so much stress, rage, anger, frustration and fear wrapped up in it. It was pure fighting power that got me to the finish line, back then. As I think about it now, it reminds me of the people I would watch in physical therapy trying to rehabilitate a knee. I forget the term, but as you recover from knee or joint trauma, there can come a time when the only thing holding you back from recovery is the point where you have to deliberately force your joint to bend. It's a moment where although the knee has been damaged and then repaired, it now comes down to your mental strength of breaking through that forcefield of protection you've built around the damaged part. It's now time to break through that and truly move again, or else risk never moving freely again. Well, I feel like there has been a protective forcefield around my creating something. If I don't complete something I can't be weighed against it. It's not something I "did", it's something I'm "working on". It's time for that to end. I'm learning to embrace the finish line, I'm learning to approach the end of a thing with joy and satisfaction, because I believe in myself. Woah! That's exciting! 😄😄😄 So here it is, a completed project, but just the first project of this summer and this party. Just wait, I'm gonna do some fun and cool stuff soon! #hardwork#practice#finishthejob#handlettering#calligratype#handtype#markers#doodles#flowersandfoliage#luau
