Meet Recap: Ended the day 7/9, 567/369/628/1564 @165
Still have some work to do to fix some small issues here but just wasn't feeling great during warm ups. I also self wrapped which may or may not have been a good idea, either way opener at 529 moved a little slow(meet PR), 567 on the 2nd moved pretty slow but was also a meet PR, so I decided to go for 584 on the 3rd just to try to set myself up for a better shot at 1600, because I was considering my bench to go pretty horribly due to a shoulder issue I've been dealing with. Unfortunately I misgrooved and put myself out of position to be able to even grind out the lift. Bench: 336/363/369
I hadn't been able to bench for about a month before this due to a shoulder issue that made it impossible to bench without severe pain. I was pretty nervous going into bench not really knowing what to expect, but after my opening attempt I knew Id be ok. Took 363 for 2nd which didn't move too well, so we took a safe approach and took a 2.5kg jump to 369 for my 3rd which actually ended up moving better than the first 2 attempts. I am really happy with how well my shoulder held up, and gave me a huge boost of confidence for how much my bench will improve once my shoulder is 100%. 400 is the goal for the US Open.
(The best part of the whole meet lol)Going into deads I was pretty pumped up because I knew I was going to need a big pull to finish off the day the way that I wanted. First two attempts moved like butter, so on the third I decided to go all in and take a big jump to 666 to get that 1602 total, unfortunately I just couldn't quite get my hips through. I didn't realize just how close I was to finishing until I saw the video. There is no doubt in my mind that I had that in me, just wasn't there that day.
All in all I had a pretty good meet, I managed to hit a meet squat PR and a total PR despite a lot of variables that were out of my control. I am still disappointed that I didn't hit my goal but this only adds more fuel to the fire and I know I will destroy 1600 by the time the Open comes around in May.
One thing I came to this meet to do was hit my squat goals. I hit everything I wanted and more. Went 3/3 on squats and was rushed on my second and had to bump the rack to reset the time. Ended up coming back on my last squat and hitting a heavier squat after my second. Bench did not go my way but I’m not surprised due to the constant up and down with it. By the time I got to deadlift i did not feel right. I felt very light headed and lethargic and ended up passing out on my last two attempts on deadlift which I’ve never passed out before. Im not worried at all with my strength, I will fix the little things that costed my performance at the end. No matter what I stand by my saying and I’m #neverbroken . I am still hungry and I’m still gonna push harder and harder! My coach/dad @jaffestrength ended up competing and coaching!! He had a phenomenal meet and hit his goal of being elite in 3 different weight classes!! For me he’s my number 1 inspiration in life right now. He’s always there for me as a coach and a friend and i don’t think he or anyone knows what that means to me. I love this powerlifting community and I love my team #jaffestrength ! Thank you to everyone who has messaged me and wishing me luck. I am truly blessed. 1 week off, then the prep starts for battle of the bay. Which is one my my favorite meets!
