We got SO much snow here at the farm yesterday(like around 4-5 inches!) We obviously had to whip out Tito’s snowman sweater for the occasion 😂💙 The pups definitely had a blast! Hope everyone here in NC stayed warm! #pomeranian#dogsweater#snowday#goldenretriever
I know I say I'm not a big fan of yellow but this David Austin rose 'Graham Thomas' is one of my favourites!
A small splash of yellow is great for enhancing other colours in a bouquet and you can't deny it's a happy colour....I still wouldn't decorate my house with it though!
At this time of year yellow flowers evoke excitement and anticipation of Spring. Yesterday morning I was welcomed by a little peep of yellow as my first crocus began to emerge.
What flowers or other things make you excited for Spring?
Yesterday was amazing! Sunshine before 6 days of forecasted rain. Here is the backside of our farm. Who knew cerinthe was so winter hardy? (It’s the self seeded plants on the left.) Also, lots of signs of the new 2018 flowers starting their journey. Lastly, the germination tent is starting to fill up with perennials and the first round of sweet peas. 🌱🌱🌱
I know this look weird but it’s a reminder to those of you saving dahlia tubers for this year. Mine are cuddling in with peat moss and hay in the dome. Checked them today and they are looking good!!! I don’t have any rotting or dried out. 🧤#GardenChat#gardening#dahlia#flowerfarm#flowers
Whose dreaming of warm summer days? 🙋🏼♀️To warm you up, this is a throwback picture to the most beautiful day this summer at my brothers wedding. He hand made and stained these beautiful boxes and we stuffed them full of so many beautiful blooms! ❤️#bloomhillbride#bloomhillflowers
This is my lovely little Ruby Red Rocket loaded up for deliveries today. She’s circa 1998, purchased for the grand sum of $1000! Have pulled out her rear seats to make extra room.Ruby has a slightly less than cutting edge sound system- its a tape deck with an unfortunate habit of playing cassettes at warp speed! I have 2 cassettes- Grace Jones and Jean-michel jarre ( I’m a brave woman for that admission). Fortunately today I discovered Jean michel had melted in the recent heat wave. So now its just Grace Jones à la chipmunk on my deliveries.
This isn’t my cart and I’m not selling pizza! @littlekitchenportugal has inspired me though... imagine something like this, only flowers??
I’m currently on the hunt for a darling little horse trailer to covert into the most adorable mobile flower market you’ve ever seen 😍.
From May to October, this cart will function as a mobile pick-up point for our CSA members, and will also function as a mini flower market for anyone lucky enough to be nearby! I’m so excited for this! I’m checking out a trailer this Saturday and will keep y’all updated once I find “the one”!
Flower farmers in the area: I’d love to create a prairie grower co-op using a few more of these. Let’s take over the wooorrld (Alberta) with flowers!
Today was another dahlia check-up day. I went through every variety looking for signs of mold, rot, or shriveling on the tubers. There was so little damage 🙌. I also divided up the last few clumps that I just couldn’t make myself do in the fall. Things are going well, and I’ve found that there are definitely a few different tuber storage methods that will work in our new (old) farmhouse cellar. (This is good news for expanded tuber sales next year!) I organized some varieties for specific events, too. The tubers for weddings at the front end of dahlia season will be potted up early and then planted in a hoop house to move things along a little faster. There are a few hard-to-find tubers in our collection— I’ll start to propagate them through cuttings tomorrow. Looking for a few new tubers to add to your own collection? Our shop has 13 types still in stock. Including the super-producers Jomanda and Sandra. And those wedding favorites: Breakout and Cafe Au Lait. Cheers! #flowerfarm#farmher#grownnotflown#dahlia#flowershop#flowerstagram#flowersofinstagram#weddingflowers
We've been super busy getting the site ready for the new growing season! First signs of tulips are popping up above ground! Excited to welcome in some beautiful colours and new varieties in the next few months! In the meantime we'll reminisce on snaps from last season to get us through the bitter cold!
I think everyone should have a why. Those little chubby cheeks are my why. I want him to grow up playing in the dirt, creating with his hands, and knowing where hard work gets you.
I was pregnant with Emmet when we decided to officially call ourselves a flower farm. By July, when he decided to join us, it was HOT, we had no rain, and the weeds were 3 feet tall. Somehow, we prevailed, filled our orders, and learned so much.
Headed into year 3, we have big plans - like I don't know where we are going to put all of this big. I hope you'll follow along - I promise lots of pretty, flowery pictures!
